Job Summary: Manages and maintains all production and non-production databases. Assists the technical lead with operational expertise for the implementation, architecture, design, ongoing support and maintenance of institutional databases and related software systems. Works with multiple IT teams and University departments to develop, maintain, and enhance databases and related applications. Essential Duties: Maintains a documented database strategy, including standards, design, maintenance, replication, archiving, access, and security to support departmental and organizational needs, under the supervision of the senior database administrator. Manages and maintains all production and non-production databases, including performing backups, recovery, and validation, as well as reporting on database statistics. Proactively manages the database environment to identify and recommend alternatives to poorly coded applications, including consulting with end users to recommend the most appropriate database solution. Applies patches, installs software, manages database environment, monitors performance, and troubleshoots alerts. Optimizes database configurations for performance and cost. Maintains current knowledge and keeps management informed of products, developments and trends in database management and software. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in computer science or information systems. Three (3) years of experience working with various database management systems within database design, testing, implementation, maintenance and administration in a multiple platform environment or seven (7) years of the equivalent experience. The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required: Intermediate to expert knowledge in managing at least one of the following RDBMS: Oracle, MySQL, MSSQL. Intermediate to expert knowledge of PL-SQL and/or T-SQL. Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database problems. Experience in Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), profiling, and using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools. Experience with backups, restores and recovery models. Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options. Experience in implementing operational automation using scripts. Knowledge of indexes, index management, and statistics. Experience working with Linux/Windows servers. Experience with PowerShell or Unix shell scripting. Good communication and documentation skills. Experience using Microsoft Office Suite. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree. Five (5) years of experience working with various database management systems within database design, testing, implementation, maintenance and administration in a multiple platform environment. The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are a plus: Experience with database administration in multiple RDBMS. Experience working in cloud environments (AWS, AZURE, etc.) Experience integrating multiple RDBMS with various enterprise applications. Experience with real-time data integration and replication in a data warehousing environment. Certifications are a plus.
