Full-Time Associate Dean of Education

Job Summary

The Associate Dean of Education at Bushnell University oversees the Teacher Education programs and is a member of a dynamic group of Teacher Education faculty team. The Associate Dean must possess effective interpersonal and communication skills, as well as strong leadership and administration skills. The Associate Dean of Education must be knowledgeable about Oregon State and Federal Education laws, accreditation standards, policies, and best practices. The position requires a strong commitment to multiculturalism and diversity.

The Associate Dean leads faculty and staff in community partnership cultivation and new program development for the department. As a member of faculty the Associate Dean routinely teaches up to a half-time load (6 credits per fall/spring semester & 3 credits in the summer). The Associate Dean supervises full-time faculty, adjunct faculty, and departmental staff, and is responsible for program delivery and program assessment. The Associate Dean serves in an entrepreneurial role in assisting the VPAA to identify, research, and develop opportunities for program development, both for new and existing programs. The Associate Dean is a member of the VPAA’s Dean’s Cabinet.

Successful performance in this position will be evaluated in terms of 1) innovative leadership for the department; 2) significant and sustainable enrollment growth in departmental programs; 3) enhanced departmental and university standing within the local and global Christian community.

Position Duties & Responsibilities

• Carry up to a .5 FTE teaching load (6 credits per semester) during the 9-month academic year plus one additional course (3 credits) within the fiscal year.
• Ensure academic quality and student-centered delivery of all courses and program information delivery.
• Collaborate with program faculty to ensure program quality and effectiveness and to promote student learning, student satisfaction, and student retention in all student populations.
• Collaborate with the Bushnell Instructional Technology Specialist to ensure effective use of BeaconLearning and online resources for all departmental programs and courses.
• Assist the VPAA to identify, research, and develop opportunities for program development, both for new and existing programs.
• Identify strategic full-time faculty positions and recruit qualified candidates.
• Recruit, screen, and provide orientation and on-boarding for adjunct faculty.
• Supervise all full-time, part-time, and adjunct faculty and staff in the department; monitor faculty & staff performance and conduct routine performance reviews.
• Develop and administer departmental program budget(s).
• Oversee assessment procedures and program review for courses and programs in the School of Education and ensure compliance with institutional assessment standards.
• Ensure compliance with state (TSPC) and national (AAQEP) accreditation standards and be responsible for accreditation-related activities and reporting for the school.
• Coordinate EdTPA instruction.
• Coordinate data collection in TaskStream.
• Attend and participate in state-wide meetings of teacher education groups, including TSPC, OAICU, and OACTE.
• Collaborate with advising staff to ensure effective advising and mentoring for all students in the department.
• Oversee program assessment and new program development within the school.
• Serve on at least one major faculty committee, as assigned by the VPAA.
• Collaborate with enrollment, admission, and advancement staff, to develop and cultivate community partnerships (e.g., internships, practicums) and to maximize recruitment activities that would benefit the institution and department.
