Position Summary: |

Assume primary administrative responsibility and accountability for all departments and personnel during assigned periods; serve as on-site representative of UH administration. Report summary of incidents to senior managementas required. Participate in and lead the Rapid Response Team (RRT) to ensure appropriate resource utilization. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups. |

GOALS - Support, promote and participate as appropriate in the development and revision of departmental and hospital goals, objectives, policies, procedures, projects and programs as assigned DECISIONS - Participate in decision-making through active membership in departmental and interdepartmental committees and task forces as appointed LIAISON - Act as resource and liaison among hospital departments, UH, other institutions and agencies COMMUNICATION - Communicate accurately, effectively, and in a timely manner utilizing appropriate chain of command/channels of communication and protocols, and promote communication by others REPORTING - Report incidents, actions taken and results to appropriate managers at the end of shift LIAISON - Act as liaison as necessary between physicians, staff, patients, families, and other departments to promote and facilitate communication, problem solving, decision-making, crisis intervention, resource utilization, and conflict management DIRECTS - Provide guidance, support, and/or direction to department supervisors and charge nurses when appropriate; participate actively and strongly supports continuous quality improvement activities COMMUNICATION - Respond to media/general public requests for information according to accepted policy; consults with and/or refers inquiries to Public Relations as directed by policy COMMUNICATION - Convey the needs and concerns of hospital staff as well as other identified problems to Administration and/or other resources as appropriate STAFFING - Reallocate staff via floating, implementing census managing as necessary to balance workload/meet patient care needs with decisions that reflect concern for the quality of care and cost effective use of resources COORDINATION - Collaborate with Admitting Office, physicians, and patient care areas when needed as consultant to facilitate appropriate patient placement based on admitting service, diagnosis, acuity, census, and staffing considerations RESOURCES - Facilitate the procurement of required supplies and services in the absence of available support services PATIENT SAFETY - Respond to emergency and routine calls and directly or indirectly provides clinical and/or administrative support/assistance as required; initiate disaster plan and other departmental/institutional response to emergency situations COORDINATION - Collaborate with others as appropriate to identify, communicate and resolve concerns related to resource availability/allocation/quality SUPERVISION - Promote and, when appropriate, participate in staff development, programs/workshops pertinent to defined area of responsibility/expertise; assists in the orientation and development of supervisory personnel TRANSFERS - Authorize transfers from other facilities STAFFING - Assist the Staffing Coordinators in completing staffing responsibilities; maintain accurate documentation of staffing and other decisions; execute staffing plans and is responsible for direct approval of transfers RAPID RESPONSE TEAM - Supervise the RRT staff for appropriate resource utilization based on patient care and safety needs PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"

Nursing program (nationally accredited) graduate Bachelor's Degree of Science in Nursing

Experience Requirements: |

3 years directly related experience

Licensure/Certification Requirements: |

Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in State of New Mexico or as allowed by reciprocal agreement by State of New Mexico CPR, ACLS & PALS Certifications within 30 calendar days of position

Bilingual English/Spanish Bilingual English/Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo 5 years directly related experience

Physical Demands Requirements: |

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. May require walking or standing to a significant degree or requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or may require working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of materials is negligible.
