Summary The Endocrinology Physician Assistant or Nurse practitioner will provide direct clinical care for patient with endocrine conditions in the inpatient and outpatient settings. This person will work under the supervision of our Endocrinology Specialty Physicians and in close communication with the Division's multidisciplinary inpatient and outpatient teams which include social work, care management, and nursing. Involvement in the educational training of future providers is also an option for interested providers. Essential Duties and Responsibilities 1.Determines and assesses the health status of patients by reviewing records, taking comprehensive medical histories, and performing physical examinations. 2. Monitors and evaluates medical condition of patient and under the supervision of a physician and in collaboration with other disciplines and standards of care or applying appropriate protocols, makes decisions regarding treatment changes. Coordinates care with outpatient primary care provider, primary inpatient team, and/or other specialized services as needed. 3.Orders and administers appropriate medications within the limits of the appropriate statutory limitations. Initiates or performs screenings and diagnostic tests. 4.Completes required documentation legibly, thoroughly and in a timely manner. Prepares and maintains complete and accurate charts, case files and records. 5.Participates in clinical education of healthcare students as seen fit by the supervising medical staff. 6.May be assigned to perform lead work and/or involvement in clinical coordination, health station management or responsibility for special projects which may encompass protocol development, management planning, scheduling and other administrative tasks as necessary to support practice environment. 7.Attends and participates in administrative staff meetings. Utilizes the principles and practices of effective communication to elicit information, negotiate problem resolution, and/or garner support for various programs or policies. 8.Follows established departmental policies and procedures, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience 1.Bachelor's Degree from an accredited school of nursing and successful completion of an approved nurse practitioner program or graduation from an accredited educational program for Physician Assistants and successful completion of certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant required. Masters preferred. 2.One year related clinical experience preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 1.Knowledge of medical principles and procedures. 2.Knowledge of community resources for appropriate procedures. 3.Skill in eliciting history from patients, performing physical exams and formulating assessments of and treatment plans for patients. 4.Ordering appropriate diagnostic studies to aid in diagnosis. 5.Knowledge of appropriate administration and prescription of medications. 6.Skill in utilizing the principles and practices of effective and persuasive communication to elicit information, negotiate problem resolution, and/or garner support for various programs or policies. 7.Skill in obtaining information from patients, calming and reassuring patients and motivating patients to accept treatments. 8.Ability to exercise initiative and judgment in selecting proper treatment. 9.Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations. 10.Ability to prepare accurate reports. 11.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public. Certificates, Licenses and Registration 1.Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers certification BLS/CPR. Certification by a national certifying body approved by the Colorado Board of Nursing, current registration with the Colorado Board of Nursing's Advanced Practice Registry, and Provisional or Full Prescriptive Authority.Depending on the needs of the assigned area incumbents in this job title may be required to obtain additional certifications or training in one or more specialty areas.(examples: DEA, PALS, ACLS). All Certifications and Licenses required for this job must be kept current as a condition of continued employment. Work Type Full time (.8 FTE) - Main Campus Pay Range Minimum: 90,600.00 Midpoint: 104,000.00 Maximum: 117,800.00 All job applicants for safety-sensitive positions must pass a pre-employment drug test, once a conditional offer of employment has been made.
