UW Medicine’s Information Technology Services (ITS) department is a shared services organization that supports all of UW Medicine. UW Medicine is comprised of Harborview Medical Center (HMC), UW Medical Center-Montlake Campus (UWMC-Montlake), UW Medical Center-Northwest Campus (UWMC-NW), Valley Medical Center (VMC), UW Neighborhood Clinics (UWNC), UW Physicians (UWP), UW School of Medicine (SOM) and Airlift Northwest (ALNW). In addition, UW Medicine shares in the ownership and governance of Children’s University Medical Group and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (a partnership between UW Medicine, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research and Seattle Children’s). ITS is responsible for the ongoing support and maintenance of the infrastructure and applications which support all of these institutions, along with the implementation of new services and applications that are used to support and further the UW Medicine mission.
In collaboration with UW Medicine IT Services (‘ITS’), the primary focus of the Applications Architect is:
Technical leadership and consultation to the application leadership team and ITS broadly.
Design of major aspects of the architecture of key applications, including components such as human factors design, application configuration, integration, middleware, and infrastructure.
Architectural review of new applications and solutions that are proposed adds to the UW Medicine application portfolio.
In collaboration with other ITS architects, define, promote, and educate aspects of an enterprise architecture.
Collaborate with governance structures and stakeholders to solve business problems and to ensure that the overall architecture of the application portfolio is continually optimized to support the long-term needs of the organization.
Additional areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:
Analyzing customer business and technical requirements and issues and recommending solutions.
Designing, building, testing, and implementing enhancements to meet functional requirements.
Providing production support and ongoing system troubleshooting, maintenance, monitoring, and training.
Managing projects, processes, and documentation to support customer needs.
Partnering with project leads and staff to coordinate project integration and implementation acorss all project segments.
Coordinating design of key UW Medicine applications at a functional and system level through the development of defined architectural standards.
Acting as a knowledgeable resource regarding the Epic EMR and other key applications, and ensures effective problem resolution at an application and technical level.
What you’ll bring to the table: (minimum requirements)
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or related field. (Equivalent experience can substitute for degree requirement.)
9+ years' experience must include:
Experience providing EHR systems application maintenance/support.
Demonstrated experience serving as a role model in providing an exceptional business partnership with customers, continuously adapting to their needs and feedback.
Experience with application/system configuration and implementation of healthcare information technology.
Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into design specifications, follow technical change control processes, and maintain technical documentation.
Experience mentoring others to increase overall professional effectiveness.
Knowledge of all phases of software development or lifecycle for vendor supplied software.
Demonstrated ability to manage small to medium sized IT projects and/or process improvement initiatives.
Experience supporting large scale enterprise customers, both internal and external, preferably in a healthcare environment.

What are some of the other tidbits that you might want to know?
This is an Information Technology deadline-driven work environment.
The individual in this position is expected to work normal daytime hours. The majority of work is performed during normal business hours; however, significant off-hours and weekends may be needed to resolve problems and respond to emergencies. This individual is expected to be available for emergencies (business continuity/disaster recovery efforts) on a 24x7 basis as needed. This position includes on-call support during evenings and weekends, on a rotating schedule with team members.
Because of the physically separated sites for UW Medicine, this position requires the ability to travel to alternative work locations as needed.
Must coordinate projects without direct supervisory authority.
Must work within the constraints of multiple technical environments.
ITS provides services to all UW Medicine organizations – HMC, UWMC-Montlake, UWMC-NW, UWNC, UWP, SOM, and ALNW. The individual in this position must learn many organizational structures and cultures and continually foster collaboration.
Ability to communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing.
