Laboratory Medicine & Pathology has an outstanding opportunity open for a Temporary Phlebotomist (Trainer). Subject Matter Expert on tasks including but not limited to; understand and know the workflow, processes and procedures associated with phlebotomy; develop and implement systems that will prompt the supervisors to proactively plan for required initial training and recurrency training as well as to document performance management activities; train staff on functions such as schedule, audit, provide feedback, document and update documents; venipunctures and capillary blood collection, answer telephones, intercom and reception window, electronic health and laboratory information systems and how to instruct patients to collect urine, and other similar patient material; participates in performance improvement activities and supports the hospital in meeting JCAHO, CLIA and CAP accreditation standards; communicate courteously and clearly with hospital and laboratory staff to resolve problems; establish and maintain positive attitude toward patients, patient care providers, self, others and the workplace; adhere to all division, departmental and organization procedures and policies. Immediate work will be directed by Manager of Program Operations or other designated person of authority. General Duties: •Maintain expertise in all functions of Phlebotomist duties. •Follow and train on all phlebotomy procedures, protocols, processes, and policies. •Train and document competency: oPrepare patient and collection equipment according to established procedures for blood collection. oVerify patient identity before performing collection. oPerform phlebotomy on patients of all ages. oInstruct patients on proper collection of urine specimens. oInteract professionally with patients, their families, departmental and hospital staff. oAssist in the training of students and new employees. oAudit, document and provide feedback to trainees. oCommunicates with direct supervisor, staff’s supervisor and Manager of Program Operations concerning any training related needs, issues, and concerns. oAssists in maintaining complete, accurate, legible records of trainees during training and audits oEnsure staff follows established departmental policies and section/division specific processes and guidelines during training and audits. •Communicate escalated problems to leadership clearly, directly and in a timely manner •Prioritize to work effectively in a fast paced clinical environment. •Support service and UWAMC goals, service efficiency, and effectiveness through such activities as: participating in problem solving, demonstrating support for policies, sharing expertise, and contributing to project work and committees. •Promote and contribute to the development of teamwork in the service and working relationships between the laboratory and other departments. •Form productive working relationships with coworkers •Communicate clearly, directly and on a timely basis. •Perform related duties as required Requirements: High school graduation AND completion of a phlebotomy course OR equivalent education/experience. Legal Requirement: Obtain State of Washington certification as a Health Care Assistant Level A within sixty days of employment date. Department Requirement: Obtain and maintain State of Washington Certification as a Medical Assistant – Phlebotomist Desired: Experience in Training Experience in a major medical hospital laboratory setting Experience with electronic health record (EHRs) information systems Experience with laboratory information system (LIS).
