 University of California Los Angeles Requisition Number: 33019 Salary: $4,842 - $9,591 monthly Position Description: In collaboration with the Undergraduate and Graduate Vice-Chairs and under the general direction of the Chief Administrative Office, serve as the Manager of Student Services in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry. Responsible for managing all aspects of the graduate and undergraduate operations for the Department. Develop and implement policies and procedures pertaining to graduate and undergraduate student affairs. Supervise a team of four to five staff members. Coordinate class scheduling, enrollment, classroom usage, and the teaching assignments. Manage, coordinate, plan, develop, implement, and modify policies for efficient operation of services and direct staff functions relating to graduate recruitment & admission, student and academic advising, public and alumni relations, career placement and programmatic needs, commencement and orientation, financial management of Block Grant, Fellowships, TA Allocation, and other student financial support. Maintain integrity of student services and admissions through leadership of staff. Formulate policies and guidelines to carry out strategic plans for department's student services. Interact with higher-level management and faculty on controversial situations and matters related to disciplinary action. Review and exercise department authority in granting exceptions for all undergraduate petitions, substitutions, exemptions, completion of degree documents, acceptable transfer credits, and re-admissions. Direct staff functions relating to undergraduate financial aid, academic advising, orientations, awards, scheduling, commencement, enrollment, and related activities. Exercise independent judgment and exercise creativity to identify issues, interpret policy and procedures, recommend and implement improvements and meet operational goals of the unit. Project yearly enrollments and advise on required course offerings, including number of TAs required for each course. Establish unit goals and objectives and implement programs to ensure effective and efficient provision of services to students, faculty, and other staff. The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is one of the largest academic departments on campus, accommodating over 20,000 enrollments in service to the Campus and 1,500 enrollments in courses for department majors and Graduate Program consists of four distinct disciplines with approximately 350 enrolled graduate students.
