The DO-IT Center has an outstanding opportunity for a Program Operations Specialist. Manage and implement aspects of several DO-IT programs that lead to high levels of independence, productivity, and academic and career success for people with disabilities, employing technology as an empowering tool. Utilize principles of vocational rehabilitation counseling with students and job seekers (vocational assessment, job task analysis, functional limitation assessment, career development, rehabilitation counseling). Coordinate projects that provide professional development to administrators, faculty, and staff on postsecondary campuses nationwide that will help them better serve students with disabilities in their job placement, classes and programs. Write and disseminate publications and resource materials, deliver presentations, and coordinate institutes and meetings about student transition and success in academic programs and careers, universal design of learning opportunities, and related topics. Engage with project participants – students and professionals – both individually and as a group, on topics related to accessibility, universal design, college preparation, and career development. Ensure project objectives are met and project activities are managed according to funding source and institution guidelines. Research funding sources and develop grant proposals to support project goals. Supervise others to meet project deliverables and realize the mission of the DO-IT Center. RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinate Project Activities: •Implement evidence-based practices to increase number of people with disabilities moving through critical junctures toward computing and STEM careers. •Strategize about plans to meet project goals. •Facilitate meetings of project personnel and project partners, manage project timelines, and archive project activities. •Plan online and in-person program activities that may include dissemination efforts, training, conferences, presentations, panels, and exhibits for students with disabilities, K-12 teachers, postsecondary faculty, administrators, parents, service providers, and others. •Help postsecondary educators, administrators, and employers fully include students with disabilities in their classes, programs, workplaces; consult with program partners to ensure their websites and offerings are accessible to people with disabilities. •Conduct surveys and focus groups to measure progress moving through critical junctures and institutional change. •Work with internal and external evaluators to develop tools for measuring success of offerings and to collect evaluation data. •Manage program budgets and records in compliance with UW and funding source requirements. •Supervise others who are supporting the mission of the DO-IT Center. Counsel Students: •Counsel students, deliver instruction, and coordinate activities. Arrange activities for students, transportation, and disability-related accommodations. Hire, train, and supervise volunteers, interns, staff, and instructors to assist with activities. Arrange academic and work-based experiences for youth with disabilities. •Support students, parents, mentors, volunteers, faculty, school contacts, and other partners and engage with them via online forums and meetings. Build and maintain synergistic relationships with stakeholders; influence, engage, and collaborate with program participants and partners; assess their needs, identify workable solutions, and make connections. Support Program Operations: •Develop and write publications (e.g., peer-reviewed articles for journals, newsletters, magazines, and DO-IT Knowledge Base) and other materials for students and educators related to college and career success, universal design, and accessibility. •Develop new project ideas, identify funding sources, and draft grant proposals. •Lead electronic mentoring community discussions for students and online community of practices for practitioners. Conference meetings and travel: •Deliver presentations and host exhibits locally, regionally, and nationally. •Represent projects through interactions with national organizations. REQUIREMENTS: •Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, psychology, disability studies, educational leadership, or related field or equivalent work experience. Rehabilitation counseling experience or knowledge related to vocational assessment, functional limitations assessment, job task analysis, assistive technology implementation, counseling, or career development. •Two to three years’ experience. Excellent oral, written, and electronic communication skills. Excellent planning, problem solving, and organizational skills. Experience in coordinating projects and leading meetings. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. DESIRED EXPERIENCE •Certified Rehabilitation Counselor designation. Experience working in the higher education environment. Knowledge of standards and techniques related to assistive technology and accessible IT.
