Lecturer-IR, Civil Engineering

The Department of Civil Engineering at Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA, invites applications for a full-time, fixed-term, non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of Lecturer-IR, commencing Fall 2021. The normal teaching load is the equivalent of four, three-credit lecture courses per semester, with lab sections counting as a ½ course each. The department, which is within the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS), offers an ABET-accredited undergraduate program in Civil Engineering and is committed to a rigorous curriculum, excellent facilities, small classes, attentive advising, and close and congenial contact with students. The ideal candidate should be someone who has a strong desire to develop construction management or construction engineering courses as a concentration within civil engineering. 

Job duties consist of: 

• Teaching a variety of undergraduate-level civil engineering courses (e.g., statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, senior design, etc.). 
• Developing and teaching a variety of undergraduate-level construction engineering or management courses such as construction estimating and scheduling, construction equipment and methods, plans and drawings, risk management, etc.,
• Teaching laboratories in construction engineering or management areas such as surveying, design and plan preparation with Civil3D, and construction materials.  

• • Maintaining teaching laboratory setups, including performing or scheduling repairs as necessary to ensure their proper function, regular calibration of instrumentation, etc. 
  • Designing new teaching laboratory setups, managing their construction, testing and debugging, and generating instruction manuals. 
  • Monitoring and ensuring that safety protocols are both developed and followed within the teaching laboratories. 

• Contributing to program assessment and accreditation activities and serving the department in its strategic initiatives. 
• Other duties as assigned by Department Chair and/or Dean.
