Flourishing Begins Here
The Emergency Department Observation unit at St. Anthony Hospital is a 16-beddepartment with volume of more than 300 patients a month (usually 300 to 310). We takeany patient needing further time to be observed from the ED. If a patient needs furthertesting or monitoring and is not appropriate to stay in the ED, then our department will takethem. Our top two diagnoses are chest pain and abdominal pain. We also accept patients that are sent from surrounding free standing EDs with the same criteria. Our departmentonly takes patients with an OBS status, we do not take overflow from other departments. Ifa patient needs more care than what can be done within 24-48 hours, we will transfer to aninpatient unit. The departments mission is to deliver safe quality care to every patient in atimely manner. Most people join this team because they have an interest in emergencymedicine. This department is a great place to get your feet wet on emergency roompatients. You will receive all types of patients and work alongside a mid-level provider (PAor NP) with every patient. We are a close-knit team and get opportunities to learn aboutmany different disease processes. We want to help our team members achieve theirnursing goals and help them attain education or certification to be closer to the ED positionthat they may desire. We look for candidates who are open, willing to ask questions, flexible with schedule, able to see the broader picture and are fast learners. This is a veryfast-paced department and we admit and discharge patients on every shift. Nurses whowork here must be adaptable to change and willing to work hard as they will be very busyon this unit.
