Under general supervision of a pharmacist, performs pharmacy-related functions to provide optimal pharmaceutical care, including managing inventory duties, processing return to stocks and working the unsold/dead drug report, compounding, and preparing and dispensing medications. Serves as a mentor of pharmacy technician staff in the tasks listed above. Serves as a role model to the pharmacy technician staff regarding the principles of good customer service and cost-effective workflows.
* * Maintains appropriate inventory management (may include)o Prepares inventories, orders drugs and supplies, receives drugs and stocks shelves in various pharmacy locations. o Restocks and delivers drugs and related supplies to patient care areas or clinics, as assigned, including automated dispensing machines. o Logs drug receipts appropriately.o Maintains stock in accordance with manufacturers' requirements and that which is most cost efficient. o Manages low stock levels.o Assists with inventory maintenance and control, including auditing and record keeping. o Restocks medications in automated dispensing cabinets or other secure locations as applicable. o Works return to stocks and unsold report. * Prepares medications (sterile and non-sterile) appropriately (may include) o Fills patient medications cassettes and completes appropriate documentation. o Pre-packs bulk medications and completes appropriate documentation. o Compounds ointments, creams, oral solutions, and other medications.o Prepares chemotherapeutic agents. o Compounds total parenteral nutrition solutions as applicable.o Compounds large-volume intervenous mixtures as applicable.o Packs and prepares medications being used in clinical investigations.o Fills patient specific medications.* Enhances personal and coworkers' professional growth and developmento Completes and meets the competency standards including education and training that is specific to the patient populations and practice site served. Keeps job knowledge current. o Assists in the training of pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, pharmacy residents, pharmacy interns, and pharmacy students as applicable. o Attends and participates in departmental meetings, in-services, huddles, and departmental trainings as applicable. o Maintains continuing education requirements for PTCB certification or maintains a pharmacy intern license in good standing. * Interacts with appropriate healthcare staff and patients to identify, clarify and fill orders for pharmaceutical needs, under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist.o Assists in entering medication orders into the computer system when applicable. o Completes paperwork needed to track usage, outdated goods, billing, and shortages.o Coordinates insurance billing including third party prescriptions when applicable.o Handles and triages telephone/window inquiries.o Assists with charging and crediting medication returns. o Assists with the medication reconciliation process. * Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, quality improvement, environmental and infection control standards, and adheres to regulatory requirements. o Complies with established departmental and DHHA policies and procedures, code of conduct, quality improvement, infection control, and safety initiatives. o Maintains secure storage and records of all medications.o Maintains medications in accordance with manufacturer's requirements. o Complies and assists with adherence to regulatory requirements (State, Board, Joint Commission, CMS, etc.)* Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

* High School Diploma or GED (Required) ** Completion of a pharmacy technician training program preferred.* Mandatory one year of pharmacy experience within the Denver Health Ambulatory Pharmacy Department * Associate's Degree
