Central Processing is one department within Perioperative Services that supports 32 operating rooms by cleaning, disinfecting and sterilizing surgical instrumentation, flexible scope and case picking equipment. The Central Processing unit also supports Patient Care Services, Ambulatory Services and the Primary Care Network: within the health system by cleaning, disinfecting reusable equipment and the cleaning, disinfecting and sterilization of surgical instrumentation used by these services. Central Processing cleans and restocks all emergency crash carts; first responder bags, PAPR supply cart, airway boxes and ICU transport bags. The Central Processing manages fiscal, materiel, and human resources to support the planning and coordination of surgical care and other patient care in the hospital and clinics. Responsibilities are focused on the technical aspects of cleaning, disinfecting, inspecting, sterilizing and putting together functional instruments and equipment for surgical services. Other responsibilities are disinfecting, cleaning and reassembling equipment i.e., ventilators and other patient care equipment.

Responsibilities This position description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification. The department delivers patient care through provision and management of capital, supplies, instrumentation, and technological support as well as human resources in collaboration with medical and clinical staff to effectively manage patients undergoing elective, urgent, and emergent surgical intervention. This position is responsible for stocking and replenishment of Central Processing/ OR supplies, implants, instrumentation and equipment (non-capital); maintaining daily supply inventory and performing other duties related to material management in the Operating Room, processing purchase requisitions using the Materials Management Information System, and supporting process improvement and supply chain related projects.
Work experience with supply ordering, procurement, receiving, and/or inventory management.
Experience or familiarity with OR supplies, instrumentation, and equipment.
Experience with processing purchase requisitions using the Materials Management Information System or similar supply chain management software/application.
Experience providing customer service to internal and external stakeholders including patients, clinical staff, and medical personnel.
Experience with data entry and organization.
Demonstrated customer service orientation and experience in a customer-facing role.
Proficiency in and experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Excellent mathematical skills to accurately complete assigned budgetary, accounting, and purchasing tasks.
Excellent organizational and analytical skills to assume general assignments and independently follow through to successful completion.
Works overtime, floats to other areas within Perioperative Services, ability to work weekends, holidays, and meet departmental staffing needs.
Meets on-call commitments.
Sitting/standing for prolonged periods, in a close environment with others, with frequently bending, stooping, walking, climbing (ladder, steps) and reaching (including overhead).
Physically able to lift at least 25 pounds.
Physically able to push/pull up to l00lbs.
Physical strength to assist in moving, transferring, and/or lifting supplies and equipment.
Manual dexterity to be able to hold and ca rry supplies and equipment in various size packaging to place in shelves and bins at various heights.
May be in close proximity to chemicals, fumes, heat, noise, cold, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
