Working with the AV, provide oversight for all animal health cases in the ARC facility ensuring appropriate management, treatment, and documentation for all species.
Provide rodent breeding colony management for a number of Principal Investigators
Working with the AV, coordinate breeding records and general breeding colony oversight.
Working with the AV, manage the routine health monitoring programs associated with all species.
Manage diagnostic samples, reports and coordinate treatment plans working with the AV and PIs
Manage veterinary services equipment and inventory of supplies appropriate to census
Research Experimental Support key responsibilities
Oversee and maintain breeding colony management of a number of specific rodent lines
Manage electronic breeding records for PIs and assist with creating a centralized breeding records management system
Train scientific and ARC staff in the performance of technical procedures as necessary and develop new techniques and skills as required by research projects
Carry out full service experimental execution including data capture, recording and reporting for external sponsors.
Work to identify new services and systems particularly in the area of rodent breeding, colony management and room oversight
Work collaboratively with the facility operations manager to ensure and maintain quality control, standards of animal health and welfare and staff skill levels
Enhance the methodology and equipment at the ARC in sample acquisition and diagnostic/research interpretation by working with the ARC director to identify and pursue funding opportunities to meet researchers needs.
Assist the Attending Veterinarian in coordination and provision of veterinary care as well as providing rodent breeding support and ensuring high standards throughout the MSU animal research program.
Bachelor of Science in applicable scientific field.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in providing veterinary technical services to rodent colonies and working with clinical laboratory animal veterinarians.
Experience with rodent breeding management and record keeping.
Proven experience in data collection and reporting in animal experimental research.
Experience with rodent breeding record management software and record keeping.
Experience with updated rodent health monitoring techniques such as environmental monitoring.
Proficient in use of Microsoft office programs: excel, word, power point, outlook.
Experience maintaining inventories of laboratory supplies and equipment.
Experience working with larger laboratory animal species.
Experience with surgical procedural support.
Experience working in Animal Biosafety Level 2 environments
Experience working in Animal Biosafety Level 3 environments.
