The University of Southern California (USC), founded in 1880, is located in the heart of downtown L.A. and is the largest private employer in the City of Los Angeles. As an employee of USC, you will be a part of a world-class research university and a member of the "Trojan Family," which is comprised of the faculty, students, and staff that make the university what it is.
The Department of Pharmacology & Pharmaceutical Sciences at the USC School of Pharmacy is seeking a highly motivated researcher for a Research Associate position in the laboratory of Prof. Jianming Xie.
The Xie Lab studies the genetic engineering of T cells and natural killer (NK) cells with novel chimeric antigen receptors (CAR) to target cancer and HIV. To this end, we use a multi-disciplinary approach, including modern protein chemistry, biophysics, cellular engineering, immunology, and mouse models of cancer. We have recently developed a universal CAR-NK cell that can recognize various epitopes of HIV-1 gp160, which can potentially significantly improve the antigenic breadth of anti-HIV CARs. Another major research area is to develop novel next-generation CAR-T and CAR-NK cells capable of recognizing cancer with high sensitivity and specificity. We are recruiting a dedicated and motivated researcher to develop and validate novel CAR-T and NK cells both in vitro and in vivo.
Molecular cloning of novel CAR-T and CAR-NK receptors
Generation of lentiviral vectors, and transduction of human T and NK cell lines and primary cells
In vitro functional assays of T cells and NK cells, e.g., cytokine production, activation marker expression, cell proliferation, and cytotoxicity
In vivo analysis of tumor targeting and CAR-T/NK cell trafficking in mouse models
Characterization of CAR-antigen recognition
Analysis of T-and NK-cell intracellular signaling
Expression, refolding, and FPLC purification of recombinant protein antigens and receptors
Training of junior lab members
Qualifications and Experience:
Ph.D. in molecular biology, protein and cell engineering, immunology, or a related discipline
Track record of high-impact scientific publications
Demonstrated proficiency in molecular cloning and lentiviral vector construction
Strong background in T- and/or NK-cell biology is highly desired
Prior experience in xenograft mouse tumor models is highly desired
Strong organizational skills and multi-task abilities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Minimum Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctorateMinimum Experience: 1 yearMinimum Field of Expertise: Directly related education and experience in research specialization with advanced knowledge of equipment, procedures and analysis methods.
