Under the direction of Executive Director of Development (EDOD) as part of Health Sciences Advancement Leadership, the Senior Director of Development, Health Sciences Advancement (SDOD) will be responsible for planning and implementing strategies for the identification, cultivation, successful solicitation, negotiation, and stewardship of major and principal gifts at the $250K to $1M+ level to support the Neurological Institute.
The SDOD-HSA prepares written and oral presentations to potential donors and community groups and coordinates approaches as defined by campus policy and procedures; develops gift opportunities consistent with the priorities of Health Sciences and UC San Diego's mission; and the UC San Diego campaign. Special emphasis will be placed on creating and implementing strategies for successful solicitations and building strategic relationships with academic and medical center faculty and staff. The SDOD-HSA will collaborate closely with colleagues in both Health Sciences Advancement and University Development and will serve on additional committees and task forces as requested by Health Sciences Advancement Leadership.

Proven success as a development officer in a highly sophisticated donor-centered fundraising environment as a direct line fundraiser with five years or more of experience. Demonstrated success with capital campaign fundraising.
Demonstrated success at raising funds by developing and implementing cultivation and solicitation plans for gifts of $250,000 to $1M+ from individuals, corporations, and foundations, both local and national.
Proven record of writing proposals for significant projects, gifts ($250,000 - $1M+) directed to individuals, foundations, corporations, both local and national.
Expert organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills. Expert project/program management skills, including skills in setting and meeting program/project goals and objectives within budget and time constraints.
Demonstrated strong organizational, managerial/mentoring and leadership skills with the ability to lead by example and encourage collaborative efforts.
Expert written and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated interpersonal skills to establish and maintain good working relationships with colleagues, faculty, donors, volunteers, and University officials, with an emphasis on diplomacy, professionalism, and discretion. Expertise in making persuasive and compelling presentations of goals and objectives in order to secure gifts.
Demonstrated expertise using on-line databases and other software to create, retrieve, and compile up-to the- minute documents and historical information for proposal reports and analysis.
Experience in developing budgets and using financial information for comprehensive budgetary reports. Experience projecting budgetary needs.
