About the Position: University Advancement serves Cal State Fullerton by building and strengthening relationships with the communities we serve to encourage advocacy, investment and support of the University, its mission, goals and programs in support of student and alumni success. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Senior Coordinator of Parent and Family Relations (Public Affairs/Communication Specialist II). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
Reporting to the Senior Director of Annual Campaigns, the Senior Coordinator of Parent and Family Relations coordinates, markets and facilitates programs for the Titan Parent and Family Association as well as the implementation of outreach and orientation efforts in coordination with Student Affairs. Plans and markets parent and family membership, fundraising and engagement events. Manages all communications with parents and families, volunteers, campus and community partners. Recruits and coordinates the Volunteer Circle. Participates on committees as assigned. Utilizes thorough knowledge of customer service and communication principles to efficiently communicate with vendors and the campus community, effectively utilize campus resources and the ability solve complex problems while proposing logical solutions. This position will also integrate strategic, financial, operational, and considerations to keep expenses within budget. Other duties as assigned.
Bachelors degree from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field and up to two years or related professional or technical experience. Knowledge of the fundamentals of public affairs and/or media relations, as well as some exposure to marketing and marketing research. Possession of strong written and verbal communication skills with a solid foundation in grammar, spelling, and the composition of various communication vehicles. Ability to serve as a media spokesperson and/or senior editor. Working knowledge of copyright and other applicable laws pertaining to publications and the media. Thorough knowledge of web communication techniques, vehicles, and formats. Ability to effectively use web technology to achieve communication goals. Ability to analyze and select pertinent facts and integrate them into communication vehicles. Possession of strong story development and journalistic writing skills, as well as advanced editorial skills. Knowledge of interview techniques and the ability to define and deliver media messages. Working knowledge of marketing and research techniques and methods. Ability to apply market research to identify communication needs and target audiences. Ability to apply appropriate statistical techniques and methods to research. Possession of exceptional interpersonal skills, including strong public speaking, listening, and interpretive skills. Ability to provide lead work direction. Working knowledge of popular social media outlets with the ability to schedule, submit information, and regulate content.
