Job Summary The Owens Valley Radio Observatory requires a general assistant to assist with essential operational tasks at the observatory to increase the efficiency of other staff members. This cover a wide range of activities, including assembling electronics chassis, organizing parts and components, creating and applying labels, and participating in the revegetation of the former CARMA observatory site.
Job Duties - Disassembling chassis to recover components - Assembling chassis with minimal supervision - Creating and applying labels for cables and equipment - Assisting with maintenance of site vehicles and heavy equipment - Identifying and removing weeds at the former CARMA site - Sorting and storing parts and components from obsolete projects - Fetching parts from local suppliers - Other duties as assigned
Basic Qualifications - Experience assembling and disassembling electronics chassis, installation of RF cables
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision - Willingness to take on a wide variety of tasks - Good organizational skills - Capacity to execute high-level tasks, such as testing basic functionality of computers to classify as e-waste or viable - Good manual dexterity and meticulousness in assembling and disassembling mechanical parts, such as cable connectors, electronic chassis, and rack equipment - A valid current driver license - Willingness and ability to work with other staff members
Preferred Qualifications - A two or four year degree in any discipline indicating an ability to work at a high level - Ability to identify plant species with minimal instruction
