At the direction of the team leader, the Business Development Officer (the “BDO”) is responsible for sourcing and developing prospects into new Bank clients. Target opportunities promote the key areas of the Bank’s consumer and commercial lending and deposit programs in order to identify opportunities to increase efficiency and profitability, and meet growth objectives. This individual is responsible for developing sales strategies and maintaining and expanding referral sources. The BDO candidate will transition on-boarded customers to the Bank’s Relationship Managers (“RM’s”) for ongoing relationship management and cross-sell of additional Bank products and services. This position will service our Albany and Lebanon locations.
Other responsibilities include: gathering and maintaining prospect data, maintaining marketing materials to be used in the selling process, participating in community organizations and activities and assisting prospective customers in the on-boarding process.
The BDO candidate should be extremely sociable, collaborative and comfortable working in a high-intensity, ever-changing environment.
MAJOR AND ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Marketing – Performs various duties and functions that promote/close sales in order to meet sales targets.
Develops and implements sales plans and activities that will achieve/exceed sales target goals. Achievement of annual sales goal is expected to come primarily from current and new (prospect) customer relationships.
Deliver exceptional customer service through leading by example.
Actively develops an outside referral network including other lenders, CPA’s, attorneys, and loan brokers.
Proactively seek new business opportunities in the market via a successful calling effort/plan on current and potential customers through personal participation. Advises prospects and customers of other products and services offered in order to develop additional banking relationships.
Establishes professional rapport with customers in order to most effectively match products and services to customer needs. Build long-term, trusting relationships with customers.
Performs a variety of duties and activities to ensure excellent customer service.
Identifying prospect needs and through analysis, determine if they are qualified leads using active listening/probing skills and problem-solving abilities.
Develops and maintains professional business relationships with other bankers, brokers, mortgage companies, etc., in the community.
Participates in the Bank’s support of positive development in our communities.
Personally participates in a minimum of two civic organizations and other activities as appropriate.
Supports the Bank’s participation in CRA-related activities.
Assists in the Bank’s compliance with all federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to lending.
Responsible for familiarity with all relevant federal and state banking rules and regulations regarding lending.
Cooperates with banking regulators and the Bank’s CPA firm during their examinations.
Cultivates and maintains a professional image and rapport with customers, the general public, management, and other Bank personnel.
Keeps appropriate parties informed of project status, problems, issues, etc.
Negotiates and attempts to resolve conflicts around projects or work assignments; communicated problems to manager as needed.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or related field preferred. Five plus years equivalent experience in a sales or business development environment acceptable as well.
Successful track record of developing and maintaining business relationships.
Critical thinking skills, analytical, and organized.Effective sales/marketing and customer service techniques, along with strong interpersonal and communications skills, both verbal and written.
Creatively-minded, good at thinking ‘outside the box’.
Ability to travel when necessary to meet with customers and/or stakeholders and build business relationships.
