The Nurse Manager holds 24 hours accountability for the quality of patient care, efficiency of operations, and human resources management for the assigned departments. Patient care and services are carried out in collaboration with hospital administration and the medical staff and in compliance with organizational goals and appropriate regulatory agency requirements.
The nurse manager coordinates all functions and processes of the float pool. Manages requests for planned and unplanned staffing assistance and coordination. Maintains a pool of supplemental staff and facilitates patient placement and throughput processes. Serves as a resource to departments needing supplemental staffing. Ensures an effective system for determining the required daily and long term staffing plan needs Promotes collegial relationships between the staffing office and other departments and disciplines throughout the medical center. Promotes a positive and professional environment; holds supervisory responsibilities; maintains adequate and productive staffing; collaborates with staff to meet or exceed quality and patient safety goals through shared governance.
Minimum Education:Bachelorâs Degree in Nursing requiredMasterâs Degree in Nursing, or in progress, strongly preferred* Masterâs Degree in Nursing may be in lieu-of Bachelorâs Degree in Nursing Minimum Experience/Knowledge:Minimum of two yearsâ experience in a formal management position required with at least four yearsâ experience as an RN required.Proven performance may substitute for years of experience.Strong critical and strategic thinking, analytical and planning skills.Organization/time management skills.Excellent communication skills. Demonstrates integrity; is ethical in conduct and decision making.Demonstrates initiative, creativity and flexibility and is tolerant of change.Demands accountability of self and others.Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office as well as Internet access and utilization.Required License/Certification:Current unrestricted California Registered Nursing license required, BLS for Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association, specialty certification preferred. ACLS required. Los Angeles City Fire and Safety Certification. If employee does not have Los Angeles City Fire and Safety card upon hire one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date.
