USC's KSOM Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine is seeking a Research Lab Technician II to join Dr. Unmesh Jadhavâs lab and the histology facility at the Eli and Edythe Broad CIRM Center.Â
We are looking for a technician to be an integral part of setting up histology services at the Broad CIRM center under the guidance of Dr. Jadhav. You will also be an active member of Dr. Jadhavâs laboratory and research. https://sites.usc.edu/jadhavlab/
As a member of the Broad CIRM center and the Jadhav lab, you will get exposed to innovative and collaborative biomedical research that uses human tissue and multitudes of animal models. You will have an opportunity to develop expertise in various tissue processing and histology procedures as well as state-of-the art molecular detection and microscopy techniques.Â
Education and other requirements:
Bachelorâs degree in biological sciences or related discipline is preferred.
Experience with basic histology techniques, including tissue processing, embedding, paraffin and frozen sectioning, immuno-tissue staining and analysis is essential.
Organizational and communication skills, and ability to work in a team environment is essential.
Experience in mouse handling is highly desirable.
Experience in a biology research laboratory is desirable.
Experience with computer systems required, including web-based applications and Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
Demonstrated ability in the following is required: a) follow precedents and procedures, b) organize and prioritize work, c) acquire in-depth knowledge of concepts, practices and policies, d) analytical problem-solving and decision-making.
Essential responsibilities will include:
Process patient surgical pathology specimens or animal tissues according to standard procedures and embed tissue in paraffin or OCT, cut sections using microtome or cryostat at settings determined for individual tissue types.
Stain prepared slides using standard and various special stains followed by microscopic assessment of quality of tissue, sections, and advanced observations.
Setup and maintain equipment in proper functioning order. Procure, prepare and maintain inventory of slides, solutions, and other special reagents, and recycle hazardous chemicals according to regulations.
Maintain records of work and observations, and perform quality control on individual projects in an orderly fashion.
The position is a one year fixed-term contract that may be extended upon performance and funding.
Minimum Education: Associate's degree, Specialized/technical training, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum educationMinimum Experience: 2 yearsMinimum Field of Expertise: Working knowledge of laboratory equipment and research protocols. Knowledge of computer analysis techniques and ability to provide routine analysis and interpretation of research data.
