Under supervision, the Staff Research Associate will assist with conducting a variety of experimental procedures for ongoing research projects focused on developing new technologies and small molecules for parasitic diseases of poverty. Under varying degrees of supervision, the staff research associate I will be involved in the three main activities outlined under Parts I – II below. The position includes engaging in routine laboratory management and support such as ordering laboratory supplies, assisting with equipment maintenance, coordinating & maintaining EH&S and IACUC compliance.
Theoretical knowledge of genetics, cell and molecular biology.
Ability to learn sterile tissue culture techniques including preparation of medium, freezing/thawing, counting and splitting cells.
Knowledge of caring for and handling small lab animals.
Ability to organize multiple experiments with controls, conducted in parallel, to simultaneously make progress on several related projects.
Knowledge of HC and single metric screening systems, associated automation incl. programs, coding and their troubleshooting.
Knowledge of HC and single metric assay design and execution; including generation, storage, interpretation and presentation of data.
Knowledge of biology techniques such as Western blotting, PCR, gel electrophoresis, and DNA/RNA isolation.
Knowledge of working with primary cell cultures.
Knowledge of imaging of cells and tissues using a high resolution fluorescent microscope and analysis of the captured images.
Skill in working in a fast-paced research laboratory with deadlines for research results for grant proposals, manuscripts, and presentations at scientific meetings.
