The Merchant lab applies cutting edge immune profiling modalities to study the immune system in patients with hematologic malignancies. We are interested in hiring a pathologist or immunologist with experience in multiplexed imaging methods such as immunoflourecence or imaging mass cytometry. Our lab runs the imaging mass cytometry/CyTOF core facility at Cedars-Sinai. Imaging mass cytometry allows for highly multiplexed (35+ markers) imaging of immune and tumor cells, with spatial information and subcellular resolution.
Imaging mass cytometry can be applied to all tissue types including cell lines, organoid, frozen section and FFPE fixed archival tissue. The lab also has projects that test immune therapies in xenograft models of human tumor and transgenic mouse models that would offer opportunities to perform mechanistic studies related to tumor immunology. Collaborations with other investigators at Cedars-Sinai allows access to single cell RNAseq, mass spec proteomics, and metabolic studies of immune cells.
As project scientist in the Merchant lab you would be responsible for performing imaging mass cytometry and suspension mass cytometry. Additional duties will include:
Analyze the tumor micro-environment to understand tumor immunology and identify biomarkers for immuno-oncology therapy.
May assist in preparation of grant proposals, submissions, publications and presentations but is not responsible for generating grant funds.
May serve as PI for certain grants as approved by supervising member of the Professorial Series.
May participate in publications and presentations as author or co-author.
May develop, adapt and implement new research techniques and protocols.
Assists in lab experiments.
Analyzes, interprets, summarizes and compiles data.
May lead or train Staff Research Associates and Research Fellows.
Will assist in day-to-day laboratory activities.
Appointees on an academic trajectory will be expected to commit a portion of their time to developing an independent range or research.
Drive advancement of early stage projects into clinical development, providing scientific and technical expertise in a highly collaborative, fast-paced research environment.
Will work with oncologists and other molecular and computational biologists to develop and apply imaging mass cytometry methodologies to clinical and experimental samples.
Develop cell line models and develop novel IHC assays.
Perform technical duties including routine procedures in molecular and cellular biology, DNA and RNA extraction, genomic analysis, ELISA assays, histology, flow cytometry, microscopy and imaging, cell/tissue culture, and animal handling.
Provide IHC support for novel oncology targets for proof of concept, indications and mechanism of action.
Present data at internal and external meetings, write technical summaries for regulatory documents, patent applications and manuscripts.
