The Distribution Line Superintendent plans and directs the activities of line crews related to all maintenance and construction. Actively promotes a culture of safety and assures safety standards are adhered to. The Distribution Line Superintendent will also prioritize crew assignments in support of system maintenance related activities as needed. Adheres to and supports company policies and develops specific operating procedures. Has supervisory responsibilities over union line crews and delegates functional activities to workers. The Distribution Line Superintendent has a high-level of line responsibility and authority to make independent decisions over an assigned function. Works closely with General Manager to ensure clear communications and effective teamwork. This individual has full responsibility for a key operation or function due to their level of skill.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include other duties as assigned.
Promotes and encourages a safe work environment. Safely performs work in conformance with all applicable regulations. Promptly reports on-the-job accidents to the General Manager and Safety Compliance Officer and HR. Participates in accident investigations and contributes to lessons learned and abatement recommendations.
Coordinates with management, operations, engineering, construction personnel, and Socorro Electric Cooperative (SEC) contractors to complete construction related projects to meet quality and schedule requirements.
Supervises and directs the activities of the line crews, and oversees contractor performance and activities related to constructing safe, reliable, and cost-effective distribution and transmission for SEC
Completes all employee evaluations on time and provides meaningful feedback for each employee. Approves all Payroll time entries of the department.
Keeps well informed of the latest equipment, practices, and procedures in the electric power industry and devises other means of securing maximum efficiency of personnel and equipment within his/her jurisdiction.
Prepares and provides budget and work plan recommendations to the General Manager related to construction activities and the ongoing maintenance and management of SEC construction vehicles.
Develops and enforces training plans to ensure employee development. Provides training and assistance to employees in the department to ensure the quality of work performed.
Assures all applicable SEC procedures are followed regarding the placement and activation of meters. Partners with other departments to conduct routine audits of new meter placements to confirm data is being properly transmitted for billing.
Sets standards of performance for employees and evaluates their performance in completing job requirements.
Serves in the “Stand-by on Call” rotation to support after hour’s member need

Assures operations are within various NEC, NESC, APPA Safety Operations, and RUS guidelines.
Coordinates workforce, monitors, and provides field checks of construction activities.
Conducts themselves in a manner that reflects well on the SEC and contributes to harmonious relations with members and the general public.
Works collaboratively with colleagues and fosters a spirit of cooperation in the workplace. Coordinates with the operations team on response to outages.
Supports company policies and methods and develops specific operating procedures for approval.
Delegates functional activities to workers and establishes supervisory schedules to define authority for independent decisions imperative to continuous service to the public and safety of workers.
Recruits and supervises workers directly or through crew foreman
Partners with local union leadership and Labor Relations to develop a healthy working relationship, build a collaborative environment, and deal with employee issues.
Responsible for tracking and management of the fleet.
Respectfully takes direction from the General Manager
Required Requirements & Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Full Journeyman Certification,
Eight (8) years of progressive responsibility in the leadership and management of an electrical system
Preferred Education & Experience:
Equivalent work experience with a minimum of four (4) years of customer service experience and Supervisory Experience
Experience managing to a Union Contract
Must demonstrate competency in the understanding of hazardous energy control procedures and be familiar with utility line construction equipment and work practices. Must be knowledgeable of the specifications and operating principles of power transmission and distribution equipment as well as voltage control, system protection, metering, and automation concepts. Must have a working knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code and be familiar with Rural Utilities Services (RUS) or other electric utility construction specification standards.
Additional Salary Information: Vacation: Once the completion of the introductory period of 6-months, will accrue 3.34 hours per pay period, which can be accumulated up to, but not exceed 40 days.
Sick Leave: Will received 40 hours after completion of the first day of employment, with an additional 104 hours after completion of the first full month, and will receive two (2) eight (8) hour days for each full month thereafter to a maximum grant of 120 days accrued in a calendar year.
401(k) Benefits: SEC will contribute 7% of base pay to NRECA 401(k) per pay period as well as contribute to NRECA Retirement and Security Plan all upon completion for the introductory period.
Medical Insurance: SEC will pay the full premium for employees, as well as spouse and dependents, for dental and vision. SEC does pay a portion of the medical insurance for the employees, as well as spouse and dependents, with the employee paying a portion of the premium.
