Responsibilities The Communications Specialist develops high-profile executive communications for the UC Davis Vice Chancellor for Human Health Sciences and executive leadership within the health system, and reports to the Director of Internal Communications in the Public Affairs and Marketing Department. This professional writer creates (researches, writes, edits and formats) local, national, and international speeches, presentations, testimony, proposals, reports, nominations, and op-eds to maximize the effectiveness of the Vice Chancellor's communication, strategically position him as an innovative leader, and secures support for leadership among all health system constituents. This position supports the Vice Chancellor's communications including social media and web strategy. Develops complex, system-wide strategic communications for the Vice Chancellor and executive leadership through high-level communications with key internal and external constituents. Develops strategy and effectively writes and posts content for intranet, website, blog, social media and other communications. Crafts messages, and develops and implements strategies to elevate the profile of executive communications with key internal and external stakeholders to secure support for Vice Chancellor's Office initiatives, and ensures a consistent voice across all communications. Writes and formats presentations, speeches, talking points and handouts as necessary to support local and national speaking engagements and meetings. Writes, edits and proofs a wide variety of key reports, proposals, plans, applications, nominations and other strategically focused documents in support of the Vice Chancellor and Dean of the School of Medicine. Researches, writes, edits, proofs and formats various other executive communications as directed for the Vice Chancellor and Dean. Required Qualifications
Experience writing and editing clear, accurate, compelling and stylistically appropriate copy. Thorough knowledge of the English language and its proper usage in both oral and written communications aimed at a variety of goals and intended for diverse audiences.
Excellent proofreading and copy editing skills
Experience using different media including Web, social media, video and traditional environments to communicate message and expand reach with varied audience
Able to meet tight deadlines and work long hours, when necessary
Strong political acumen and extraordinary sensitivity to the perceptions and concerns of others, with the ability to craft communications that respond to political realities and stakeholder needs
Demonstrated ability to write for various print formats, including numerous text-document formats, presentation formats (such as PowerPoint, posters) and Web communications
Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to represent the Office of the Vice Chancellor and the Office of Public Affairs in a professional manner in the conduct of highly visible work
