Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:
The Art Department of Sam Houston State University invites applicants for a one-year renewable contract to teach Foundations beginning January 2020.
The successful candidate will be part of a collaborative 4-member team, teaching in WASH (Workshop in Art Studio and History). The WASH program is a nine credit hour foundations program that includes 2 studio courses (Surface Studio & Space Studio) and a lecture course emphasizing contemporary art and theory.
We are seeking candidates with a commitment to teaching and developing curriculum in Foundations. Candidates should have the ability to teach formal skills and concept development, and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a teaching team.
The workload of the Lecturer includes teaching 3-4 courses per semester and assisting with the management of the WASH facility and programming.
Applicants must have an MFA in Sculpture or 3D Studio Art, experience teaching Foundations, experience teaching collaboratively and developing curriculum for a contemporary Foundations program. In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will be expected to assist the Foundations faculty with curriculum development and program assessment; assess writing activities of WASH students and portfolios of BFA students; document student work and maintain WASH archives; and participate in WASH faculty committee meetings.
