The Research Assistant II is mainly responsible for research support and some lab support duties in furtherance of the Principal Investigatorâ™s (PI) and postdoctoral fellowâ™s studies, including work in molecular biology, biochemistry, protein production, purification, and some tissue cultures. Under general supervision, duties include assisting postdoctoral fellow to boost progress of their projects in diverse scope, performing biochemical and molecular experiments to obtain reliable results under instruction of protocols, reporting conclusions to postdoctoral fellow, as well as exercising judgement and application of his/her technical knowledge to analyze results from experiments. Assists in hiring new staff, trains staff in molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell biology techniques and other techniques as necessary, handles equipment upkeep and repair, ensures compliance with all Salk policies, works with postdoctoral fellow to achieve specific research goals, and addresses routine scientific issues that may arise. Incumbent is also responsible for maintaining all lab materials including plasmid DNA, DNA and custom primer data, chemical inventory list, and freezer/fridge contents. Assists PI with budget administration and department ordering, acts as lab representative/point person regarding routine to moderate lab issues, and ensures lab safety. Required:
