Join our team of six Certified Nurse Midwives at University of Washington Medical Center Northwest in Seattle, Washington. We are currently seeking a full scope Certified Nurse Midwife to join our hospital-based midwifery practice. This is a faculty practice that includes University of Washington academic faculty appointment in the School of Medicine Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, with generous benefit programs.
UW Medical Center's Northwest campus is a full-service, non-profit, community hospital, with 281 beds, on a patient-friendly, easy-access campus in northeast Seattle. Our community hospital is in the final stages of merging with the University of Washington Medical Center, the top-rated hospital in Washington State.
Provide full-scope midwifery care in an all-CNM practice group, including independent management of women’s health care focusing primarily on pregnancy, birth, postpartum as well as family planning, gynecological and primary care of women.
Practice within UW academic healthcare system that provides for consultation, collaborative management or referral to obstetrics, perinatology, and other specialties as indicated by client health status
Manage hospital labor assessment and admission, normal and abnormal labor, cervical ripening and labor induction, postpartum care and discharge of mothers and newborns.
Perform vaginal birth and laceration repair, limited 1st, 2nd and 3rd trimester OB ultrasounds as appropriate to training and experience, C-section first surgical assist, and IUD and subdermal contraceptive implant insertion and removal.
Maintain medical records according to community standards of practice.
Assist in training of student midwives and medical students and residents in outpatient and inpatient settings

Masters or Doctorate Degree in Nurse-Midwifery or Midwifery required.
Licensure, Registration, Certification
Current CNM (Certified Nurse Midwife) certification
Current Registered Nurse (RN) License for the State of Washington
Current Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) license for the State of Washington with prescriptive authority
Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) certification (active within 3 months of hire.)
Experience as a full scope midwife, including newborn care and C-section first assist preferred but not required
Previous training or experience with OB ultrasound preferred, but not required
Experience teaching in healthcare setting is preferred but not required
Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age and acuity of the patients served by the assigned unit/department or clinic.
Microsoft Office skills including Word, Excel and Outlook.
Ability to learn and work comfortably with electronic medical record (Training will be provided)
Ability to appropriately counsel and educated patients and families about complex care issues via phone or in person.
Able to effectively and respectfully communicate and collaborate with midwife partners and others, including but not limited to physicians, management, nursing, and support staff
Teaching skills and ability to give appropriate positive and constructive feedback
Flexibility in responding to needs of clinic schedule, practice partners, and patients

We are a small (6 midwife) hospital-employed group providing full scope midwifery care in an incredibly supportive practice environment in Seattle, WA. Our hospital birthing unit supports physiologic birth, but also offers a range of pain relief measures including nitrous oxide. Our C-section rate is 9%. We are a relatively small community hospital in lovely northeast Seattle neighborhood, but affiliated closely with world-class academic medical center at University of Washington (UW Medicine).
