Job Description Job Summary: This position will be conducting user needs analysis, gathering functional and technical requirements, perform gap analysis, and prepare viable options for implementing both simple and complex services and solutions and assist in data management.
Responsibilities: Our Business Analyst roles serve as the principal conduit for managing system requirements between the business and the software development team throughout the duration of a project.
Serve as point of contact for customers and IT staff with for more complex questions or requests.
Acts as a liaison between requesting department and IT staff by identifying underlying business need to be addressed and information related to an application for an enhancement, often through conversations with stakeholders.
Develops and implements unit and user acceptance testing for new programming / processes based on the needs of the business owner for applications and systems requirements associated with any federal, state or TAMUCC business requirements.
Creates documents relating to up and downstream applications of varying size, including the flow of application data in a format that can be shared with stakeholders. This includes documenting flow charts and diagrams describing logical operational steps of programs.
Develops training materials and / or assistance with Service Desk Knowledge Base information for application changes resulting from application changes
Develop, document, and revise system design procedures, test procedures, and quality standards.
Coordinate the assessment of business needs through direct interaction, mapping of current and future business processes, and looking for opportunities to develop and improve the business through effective use of technology.
Creates Business Requirements documentation and draft Business Process Review documentation needed for modifications to application requested by business owner in a format that can be shared with both functional and technical staff.
Develops unit and UAT test cases based on business requirements / process flow documentation.
Follows through on issues and problems until resolved or escalated. Implement change management plans.
Participate in Business Process Management group efforts to collect and analyze metrics and continually improve processes owned by the group.
Consult with management and the Business Analyst team to ensure agreement on system principles.
Assists project leader with developing work plans and time schedules for projects including outlining phases and identifying personnel and computing equipment requirements.
Assists in development of project management documentation as needed.
Work with clients and technical group to resolve system issues.
May perform all or some of the duties of an IT Business Analyst I
Attend educational workshops; review professional publications; establish personal networks; benchmark state of the art practices; participate in professional societies.
Proactively learn and utilize new technologies, concepts and procedures as appropriate to project requirements
Analyzes source documents, data base structure, and management report requirements.
Reads manuals, periodicals, and technical reports to learn how to develop programs that meet staff and user requirements.
Adheres to internal controls established for department.
Performs other related duties as required.
Bachelor's degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in full life-cycle of application development.
Experience and demonstrated knowledge of higher education organization structure and business practices and the associated systems and platforms (e.g. Student information systems, academic advising, student recruitment).
Experience with using applications associated with Higher Education, specifically Ellucian Banner and Degree Works, Blackboard, TargetX, Starfish, Argos and similar higher education applications.
Advanced cross-disciplined business process skills, advanced process analysis and troubleshooting/problem-solving, client relations skills, requirement assessment and analysis, project management methodology, understands context/interrelationships, and proficiency of ITIL
Experience with Business Process Reviews, creating documentation for Business / Functional Requirements fit gap analysis and identifying critical success factors.
Experience in document versioning software and / or Agile methodology (e.g. Git/GitHub, Confluence, JIRA)
Excellent communication, analytical, facilitation and negotiation skills.
Equipment: Ability to use smart phone, standard office equipment and applications. Ability to use software for process flows.
Working Environment: Standard office environment. Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
