The Lead Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (LDCS) is responsible for assisting the Nursing Program Manager/Director of Nursing in the daily management of the Cardiology laboratory. Department responsibilities include but are not limited to: performing duties related to the role as Technical Director for IACEL accredited lab, including organizing and running quarterly meetings in collaboration with the Medical Director and staff, handling audit requests by IACEL, and maintaining appropriate documentation to meet IACEL requirements needed for re-accreditation. The LDCS serves as a liaison between the medical and technical staff.
The LDCS proficiently performs diagnostic tests utilizing advanced technical skills to direct cardiology testing used in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac diseases. The LDCS performs, teaches, trains and oversees the technical aspects of echocardiography and other cardiac diagnostic tests.
The role of the LDCS encompasses the performance of a full range cardiac testing, quality assurance and statistical data gathering as well as training and supervision of assigned staff in the performance of cardiac testing and patient care in an academic/research environment. The LDCS functions as a preceptor to staff and students and assists with patient scheduling and procedures to ensure efficient workflow.
Education and Experience: Graduate of a CAHEP accredited Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer program
Five (5) years of non-invasive diagnostic cardiac (EKG, Holter Monitoring (Scanning and Hookup), Exercise Treadmill Stress Testing, Nuclear Cardiac Stress Testing.
Experience in coordination of the IACEL (Intersocietal Accreditation Commission for Echocardiographic Laboratories) accreditation required
Licensure/Certification: Current Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Cardiac Specialist (RCS) through ARDMS or CCI, with second registry, either Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) and / or Certified Cardiographic Technologist is required. Certified in Basic Life Support.
Management Experience: Two (2) years technical supervisory or preceptor experience required. Operational experience related to patient scheduling and flow preferred
Equipment Operated: Various ultrasound and cardiology related machines.
Skills/Knowledge: All aspects of diagnostic echocardiography including Stress echo (treadmill and dobutamine stress echo), TTE, TEE. Non-invasive diagnostic cardiac (EKG, Holter Monitoring (Scanning and Hookup), Exercise Treadmill Stress Testing, Nuclear Cardiac Stress Testing. Knowledge of IACEL standards required
