Summary of Duties: This successful candidate will carry-out research and surveillance activities related to antimicrobial resistance to support ongoing funded projects. They will be expected to work independently to manage the duties and tasks set forth by the PI. These include, but are not limited to, designing, developing and implementing field and lab protocols to study antimicrobial resistance. Duties will include fieldwork, training personnel, data collection, data analyses and summary of results. The incumbent will attend professional and stakeholder meetings to present their findings and will summarize them for publication in peer reviewed scientific and extension journals. The incumbent is expected to play a major role in training undergraduate and graduate students attached to funded projects. The successful candidate will work at WSU's Global Health Kenya program office located at the University of Nairobi Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases (UNITID) building within the Kenyatta National Hospital Compound in Nairobi, Kenya.
Required Qualifications: PhD. in Infectious Diseases, Microbiology, Epidemiology, Molecular biology or related scientific fields obtained within 5 years of the start date. Expertise with one or more of the following areas: antimicrobial resistance surveillance, infectious disease epidemiology, microbiology (primarily bacteriology). Demonstrate full attention to details, excellent record keeping and ability to conduct statistical analyses. Must be exceptionally self-motivated, have excellent organizational, interpersonal and both oral and written communication skills.
