Qualifications: Required qualifications for this position include a doctorate in sociology or a related field from an accredited university by the start of the appointment; training in sociology or related discipline with an emphasis in sport and quantitative or/and qualitative research methods; a commitment to and demonstrated potential for teaching excellence; research potential, demonstrated through peer reviewed publications and presentations; and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Applicants should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience.
Preferred qualifications include a strong record of teaching excellence, experience teaching research methods and statistics, and a record of service. Administrative experience.
Responsibilities: The successful applicant will teach undergraduate courses in the sociology of sport and research methods, and develop courses in area of expertise. Other teaching related duties include General Education and program assessment. In addition, the successful applicant will serve as Assistant Director in the Institute for the Study of Sport, Society, and Social Change (ISSSSC). For this position the duties will include developing and maintaining a research agenda that is inclusive of sport, equity, and social justice; build relationships with scholars regionally, nationally, and internationally by attending conferences and academic forums. Other responsibilities include maintaining an active research agenda and participating in service and governance activities appropriate to rank. Candidate must demonstrate awareness and experience understanding the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language and academic preparation – through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.
Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
