Job Summary / Basic Function CLASSIFICATIONSUMMARY:
Installs and configures data, video and/or voice communications network equipment. Analyzes current and proposed configurations for most cost efficient method.
This is second in a series of two classifications. It is distinguished from the first by the complexity of work assigned, the decision-making authority and experience required to perform the duties.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS:
Analyzes data from servers and reviews for problems. Makes recommendations for reconfigurations and upgrades of networks.
Monitors network utilizing various software packages and systems.
Maintains network. Troubleshoots end user problems and makes necessary repairs/replacements.
Installs and configures new devices. Maintains network map and other related documentation.
Designs and implements databases for voice and data communication network information.
Provides support to end users in a positive manner. Provides training on equipment and related software as needed.
Installs and configures server software packages.
Develops and maintains a positive service orientation.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications JOBREQUIREMENTS:
Maintain the LAN, WAN, wireless, and perimeter network, including physical and logical structures, to include o Monitor the operational network environment and takes corrective measures to ensure efficient performance. o Perform tuning and capacity planning activities to enhance the performance of the network resources. o Maintain current and accurate documentation of existing and future network infrastructure. o Troubleshoot and resolve network communication problems. o Operate and test network software and hardware configurations.
Configure, monitor, and maintain the security solutions utilized on the network, including but not limited to VPN, firewalls, and vulnerability scanners.
Maintain all campus credit card terminals and pay to print kiosks.
Maintain documentation of network security and risk analysis activities.
Serve as a technical specialist and work with LIT Help Desk personnel to solve system and/or network problems.
Oversee work and performance of subcontractors engaged in projects in order to ensure compliance with work orders.
Maintain currency of knowledge with respect to relevant technology, equipment, and/or systems.
Produce reports for management.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of network facilities, personal computer hardware and software, current technological developments/trends, network security practices and procedures, monitoring and management tools, TCP/IP networking, and IP telephony concepts.
Working experience with Cisco and Meraki Switches Networks.
Skill and ability to analyze and resolve network problems, maintain and troubleshoot network components, communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and operate various office equipment such as a computer, copy machine, fax machine and multi-line telephone.
Experience with Microsoft Windows Active Directory.
