Job Summary Caltech Student Wellness Services supports graduate and undergraduate students who are scientifically minded, culturally diverse, and highly engaged in a rigorous academic environment. Our tight-knit campus allows for the development of strong relationships with campus partners and for the provision of high-quality support to meet the unique needs of each student. Counseling Services operates under the collaborative care model of Student Wellness Services, which also includes primary care, occupational therapy, and alcohol and drug education. The multi-disciplinary Counseling Services team provides psychotherapy, crisis management, outreach, consultation, and training to approximately 2200 graduate and undergraduate students. Counseling Services has strong collaborations with the Office of Residential Experience, the Center for Diversity, International Student Programs, Athletics, and the academic divisions.
The Counseling Services staff clinician will function as an integral part of the clinical team, providing individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, outreach, and consultation for the campus community. This clinician will also participate in campus-wide initiatives to support suicide prevention, increase resilience among the student population, and work collaboratively with colleagues to support the mission of the Institute. Additionally, the staff clinician will demonstrate an appreciation and understanding of the culture and priorities of a science and technology-focused research institution.
Job Duties - Provides individual and group counseling for culturally diverse graduate and undergraduate students, for a wide range of psychological concerns - Works collaboratively with other mental health and medical professionals within Student Wellness Services for case management, consultation, and referrals - Participates in Counseling Center staff meetings, clinical case consultation, and peer supervision groups - Demonstrates thorough knowledge and practice of applicable laws, standards of care, and ethical professional conduct - Demonstrates a keen understanding of the ways in which culture, ethnicity, race, and identity may impact the experience of students, and incorporates this into clinical interventions and case conceptualization - Serves as liaison to a student affairs office and/or undergraduate housing community (e.g. the Center for Diversity, International Student Programs, etc.) - Demonstrates proficiency in oral and written communication skills, public speaking, and leading group discussions - Develops and provides training, consultation and outreach to faculty, staff, and students on a variety of issues related to suicide prevention, crisis management, mental health, and emotional wellbeing - Assists in crisis response to individuals and/or groups during campus-wide crises and natural disasters - Participates in back-up after-hours crisis rotation in conjunction with ProtoCall services - Occasional after-hours programming, outreach, and clinical interventions required - Other duties as assigned
Basic Qualifications - Master's degree from an accredited program in clinical psychology, social work, or another related field - Valid licensure as LCSW or Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of California or licensed with similar qualification in another state (licensure to practice in California must be obtained within 6 months of hire) - Minimum of 1-year post-licensure clinical experience
Preferred Qualifications - Doctoral degree from an accredited program in clinical psychology, social work, or related field - Valid licensure as Clinical Psychologist in the state of California. If licensed with similar qualification in another state, licensure to practice in California within 6mo of hire - Experience working in a college/university setting - 3+ years post-licensure clinical experience - Demonstrated experience and expertise in working with one or more the following populations or clinical concerns is preferred: persons of color, historically underrepresented and underserved minority populations, LGBTQ and non-binary clients, survivors of trauma and abuse, students on the autism spectrum, disordered eating, and students with disabilities
