Staples, Inc. entered into a 20-year agreement to become the arena’s Naming Rights Partner December 1, 1998, which has since been extended into perpetuity.
The primary duty of the Production Event Manager is to provide coordination and support to the clients and tenants of STAPLES Center which include concerts, special events, and sporting events. The Production Event Manager is responsible for the supervision, scheduling, and coordination of the stage crew, including members of stagehands from the local union hall. Other duties include establishing production maintenance guidelines and departmental operating procedures. The Production Event Manager is responsible for supervising and participating in the operation, maintenance, and repair of stage and production equipment.
Manages and supervises in-house crew, stagehand and other technicians, including those not in the direct employment of the facility, engaged in producing a stage or non-stage production, in varying degrees of interactions, possibly from concept to production. This includes determining priorities of event coordination; hanging of soft goods, electric, sound, supplemental rental equipment and building modification.
Serve as the primary contact to one or more of the STAPLES Center anchor tenants (Lakers, Clippers, Kings, Sparks) and act as the primary liaison in providing and determining their needs in order to make their event successful.
Duties include the development, implementation, and execution of the experience for over 19,000 guests at events.
Coordinates the setting up and working of support equipment for all stage presentations, and assembles stage crews for setting up, working, and tearing down all stage shows.
Manages and coordinates the scheduling of repair and maintenance of all stage equipment.
Oversee the proper execution of all elements for concerts, sporting events, and specialty shows including technical needs, parking, Emergency Services, Food & Beverage, Ushers, Engineering, Facilities Presentation, Broadcasting, Media, Security, and Sales & Marketing.
Files reports and payroll processing regarding stage personnel.
Gather and create event estimates/costs for clients/promoters.
Interface with the Los Angeles Fire Department on all permit requirements and obtain approval for special setups.
1. A minimum education level of: BA/BS Degree (4-year) in Theater Management/Production 2. A minimum of 5 years of related work experience in Production Management. 3. Knowledge of electrically and manually operated stage and sound equipment and the methods, materials, tools, and practices required for their repair and maintenance 4. Extensive knowledge of stagehand practices and techniques including IATSE stagehand practices and union contracts is preferred 5. Knowledge of the occupation hazards and safety precautions of the trade 6. Ability to read, understand and implement artist riders 7. Ability work flexible schedule, which includes: days, evenings, weekends, holidays, etc. 8. Knowledge of electrical wiring and of sound systems 9. Ability to produce desired stage and lighting effects 10. Ability to plan, lay out and supervise sound systems for a variety of shows 11. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions 12. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations 13. Ability to coordinate all components in presenting major productions, awards shows and concerts 14. Good knowledge of AutoCad software strongly preferred 15. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word and Excel); and ability to learn required business systems 16. Knowledge of “front of house” patron practices and procedures 17. Extremely organized and detailed oriented
