Foothill Country Day School is currently seeking a 7th and 8th Grade Substitute Science Teacher for its Upper School. This is a full-time, temporary substitute teacher assignment that starts in January 2020 and ends in June 2020.
The science teacher offers instruction in the areas of life science and physical science by inspiring students to observe, engage, question, and explore. The 7th and 8th grade science program is highly developed and integrated with the science curriculum in grades K-6. Instruction takes place in a lab facility and is hands-on and project based. The 7th and 8th grade science teacher collaborates with the K-8 science teachers to develop curriculum which reflects Foothill’s Mission, Core Value and Educational Vision, fosters curiosity in students, and facilitates an understanding of scientific procedure.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Collaborate with Upper School Director, K-6 science teachers, and Upper School faculty to ensure the development and coordination of the 7th and 8th grade science curriculum.
Serve as an advisor for students in grades 7 and 8.
Availability to chaperone a two-night outdoor education trip at discretion of Foothill Country Day School.
Take advantage of opportunities for science-related field trips.
Utilize such vehicles as weekly Friday Notes and monthly bulletins to communicate 7th and 8th grade science happenings and current areas of focus to the broader community.
The ideal candidate will have the following educational and work background:
A minimum of 3-5 years of teaching experience.
Undergraduate degree from a 4-year accredited institution in science, mathematics, or a related field.
The ideal candidate will have the following skills and attributes:
A solid understanding of adolescents’ academic and social emotional development.
Familiarity with authentic assessment practices and current technology.
A passion for working with middle school students.
A proven record of collaborative teamwork together with an understanding of interpersonal relations, strong verbal and written communication skills, and a healthy sense of humor.
