ZEI is currently looking for an experienced, accomplished, self-motivated Fusion Plasma Research Computational Scientist to work with the ZEI CSO in leading state-of-the-art computational plasma physics investigations. The Computational Scientist will also work closely with ZEI experimental Scientists in validation studies, analysis, and interpretation of experimental data. The Computational Scientist will present results of these experimental and computational studies at conferences and through publications. The ideal candidate is an organized, inventive problem solver, capable of working through technical challenges and employing sound, pragmatic solutions through team efforts. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Working with the ZEI CSO, perform detailed computational analyses of SFS Z-pinch physics
Assist other ZEI scientists in analysis and understanding of SFS Z-pinch experiments, including specific computational support
Position reports to CSO
Qualifications and Skills:
7-10+ years post-PhD experience in computational fusion plasma physics research
Experience with high-fidelity multi-fluid and kinetic plasma simulations
Detailed knowledge of, and experience with, state-of-the-art plasma physics computational codes, including finite elements, fluid codes, and kinetic codes
Familiarity with plasma physics experimental and diagnostic techniques
An ability and interest in collaborating with experimental scientists
Excellent coding skills, including C++, Fortran, MPI, OpenMP, etc.
Knowledge of Python for data analysis and post processing
Ability to identify the relevant physics required for particular applications, and applying appropriate computational codes and numerical techniques
