Associate Director of Sales, UCLA - Luskin Conference Center
Seeking an experienced Sales Associate with a successful track record. This position will assist the Director of Sales and Marketing with the responsibility for total room, banquet, catering, and room rental revenue, yield strategies, implementation and accountable to a market performance and meeting budget, forecast, and optimal business mix targets. Strategies to include market mix, pricing, status, and direct sales. The development and solicitation of business from all markets to ensure the necessary advance bookings needed for a successful and profitable operation for the hotel.
Direct the solicitation efforts of the sales staff through effective oral and written communication while overseeing rate, date and space commitments for group room sales within the hotel.
Ensure training programs are conducted regularly and LCC standards of performance are met. Give guidance and counsel staff toward improvement.
Compile and/or direct the preparation of reports pertaining to the operation of the Sales Department to include, but not limited to the annual and monthly forecast, lead management system, group booking pace report, catering pace report, star reports and sales meeting minutes.
Coordinate ongoing research of the travel industry to detect market trends and related information for development of new marketing strategies. Make reasonable recommendations to improve potential from various markets.
Develop and conduct persuasive verbal sales presentations to prospective clients.
Initiate preparation of annual business plan and execute plans as outlined, critically examining and adjusting as deemed necessary by current market conditions.
Organize and/or attend scheduled sales department, executive committee, and related meetings.
Knowledge of travel industry, current market trends and economic factors.
Ability to access, understand and accurately input information using a moderately complex computer system.
Direct and manage all group, transient, and catering/banquet sales activities to maximize revenue for the hotel.
Assist the Director of Sales and Marketing with the preparation and implementation of strategic sales plan, monthly reports, annual goals, sales budget, forecasts and other reports as directed/required.
Develop rates, group sales and catering deployment strategies through review of competitive data, demand analysis and mix management.
Professionally represent the Center in community and industry organizations and events.
Comply with attendance rules and be available to work on a regular basis.
Perform any other job related duties as assigned.

Ability to close sales and negotiate large dollar volume financial contracts.
Proficiency in the English language sufficient to interact effectively and graciously with clients, to write clear and grammatically business correspondence such as proposals, memorandums, and event orders.
Effective public-speaking skills to conduct sales presentations and site inspections.
Skill in prioritizing and organizing assignments when faced with a heavy workload, deadlines, and compelling requests for service.
Interpersonal skills to work diplomatically and effectively with a diverse public clientele, University officials, colleagues, and students.
Working knowledge of catering and conferencing business, including menu- planning, current trends in food and entertaining, basic room set-ups and capacities, and audio/visual equipment.
Working knowledge of the Transient and IBT market including efficiency in GDS, Travel Companies, booking engines etc.
Ability to exercise independent judgment, initiative, and follow-through on assignments with minimal direction.
Analytical skills sufficient to contribute to marketing & sales strategic plans.
Ability to supervise and motivate members within a team.
Ability to supervise; encourage and motivate individuals to work together to achieve department's goals and objectives.
Accounting and arithmetical skills needed to prepare cost estimates, proposals, and billing explanations.
Ability to work with detail, prepare, and review a large volume of work rapidly and accurately. Maintain workflow with changing priorities, frequent interruptions, and conflicting deadlines.
Demonstrated skill in working as part of a team, collaborating with colleagues and maintaining cooperative working relationships.
Proficient with MS Office programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Working knowledge of Account Management systems (i.e. Delphi system). Proficient in the use of social media and other technology for prospecting purpose.
General/ working knowledge of University accounting forms and policies sufficient to accomplish standard departmental accounting transactions. (UCLA specific knowledge is preferred).
Ability to travel to national and international destinations to conduct business trips.
