Make books, journals, and other library materials accessible through cataloging and classification, and maximize catalog access through authority control and database maintenance.
Typically a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience or course work in library science. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes
Minimum of one year of library experience, including editing cataloging records on a computer database.
Familiarity with searching and editing in OCLC and/or online library systems. Preferred: Academic library experience, familiarity with Anglo-American Cataloging Rules (AACR2) and/or Resource Description and Access (RDA), Library of Congress Classification, and Library of Congress Subject Headings.
Demonstrated knowledge of library operations and Library of Congress classification system. Knowledge of electronic library catalogs and basic operation of personal computers.
Ability to be detail-oriented, highly organized, flexible, and adaptable. Ability to relate well to the campus community and the public. Ability to perform with frequent interruptions and distractions.
Exemplary communication skills (both written and oral); ability to communicate effectively with library patrons and library staff. Interpersonal skills, and ability to follow both written and oral directions. Basic familiarity with personal computers and standard productivity software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe products.
