THE POSITION: The City of Portland's Bureau of Development Services is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to work as part of the Plan Review Team within the Plan Review & Permitting Services division. They are responsible for and perform reviews of construction plans for heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, refrigeration, exhaust and smoke control systems for compliance with state building codes and other applicable city, state, and federal regulations.
The Mechanical Engineer works independently, but consistently with team members; uses initiative, exercises sound and professional problem-solving judgment; prioritizes responsibilities, and multi-tasks while adhering to timelines and customer service expectations.
Reviewing of the building envelope, mechanical systems and lighting for compliance with energy conservation requirements
Working collaboratively with customers and coworkers including design professionals, contractors, owners, plans examiners, fire marshals, structural engineers, inspectors and others to assist in answering questions, interpreting complex technical concepts and offering solutions, from design concept through construction
Providing excellent customer service in an equitable manner to meet the Bureau's expectations and the needs of the City of Portland's community
Reviewing of mechanical systems for compliance with the Oregon Mechanical Specialty Code and other applicable city, state, and federal regulations.
The current Mechanical Engineer vacancy is in the in the Bureau of Development Services and is apart time position between 24-35 hours per week.
An ideal candidate will have experience designing HVAC systems and experience adhering and citing mechanical code. Ideal candidate will also have experience with Portland mechanical regulations and policy.
