Under minimal supervision, performs supervisory functions over professional nursing and support staff in non-acute outpatient or community settings. Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the nursing care of patients. Provides clinical support and acts as a resource to the clinic care team in order to provide optimal patient care. Manages and monitors daily staffing assignments and clinic flow.
Education: Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
Experience: Typically two years of professional nursing experience in an ambulatory care setting preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of techniques, methods and competencies of clinical nursing practices. Knowledge of safety principles and infection control in the patient care environment. Knowledge of standards, policies, and procedures of Denver Health and the Scope and Standards for Professional Practice of the American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing. Skills to properly use medical instruments and laboratory equipment as applicable. Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form. Ability to contribute to the development of care team members by identifying learning needs and assisting with those needs. Ability to ensure continuity of patient care by managing and monitoring staff assignments, providing direct patient care and evaluating patient outcomes. Ability to utilize nursing process, research, and evidence-based practices in daily work. Ability to assess patients’ needs and coordinate team-based care. Ability to respond appropriately to emergency situations. Ability to immediately and independently address issues/problems as they occur with patients, staff and visitors and escalate appropriately. Ability to use computers and computer systems. Bilingual skills preferred.
Certificate/License/Registration: Basic Life Support for Health Care Provider Certification/CPR. Active Registered Nurse (RN) License in the State of Colorado or a participating compact state. National board certification is preferred and encouraged for Charge Nurses. *Specialty certifications as required/recommended per unit. All Certifications and Licenses required for this job must be kept current as a condition of continued employment.
