Housing and Food Services (HFS) is pleased to announce an opening for a Food Service Worker 1 with Central Production Kitchen.Central Production Kitchen is located in Willow Residential Hall. This position works with a team of full-time catering staff and student employees to support retail food service units on campus with production of bulk foods as well as HFS's premier grab-and-go line.At the University of Washington, diversity is integral to excellence. We value and honor diverse experiences and perspectives, strive to create welcoming and respectful learning environments, and promote access, opportunity and justice for all.We seek candidates who exhibit an appreciation of, a sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse environment, inclusive of students, faculty and staff of many social, economic, cultural, ideological, racial and ethnic backgrounds.Key Responsibilities:*Perform basic preparation including, paring fruits and vegetables, reheating refrigerated or frozen soups, sandwiches, sauces; paring fruits and vegetables; toasting bread; assembling salads and sandwich fillings and preparing hot and cold beverages.*Set the workstation and/or display counters up, based on production sheets and established plans. *Restock and rotate station according to established plans, par levels and food handling policies and procedures. *Receive customer orders, answering questions about ingredients, recipes and pricing.*Gather, assemble, package and serve menu items to customer order.*Prepare specialty beverages to customer order.*Operate point of sale systems, keying in sales, taking payments and making change; account for receipts at the end of the work shift.*Continuously clean and maintain order of workstation, prep areas, service counters and seating areas.*Ensure that all foods used are properly handled, wrapped, dated, labeled and stored.*Maintain records of foods produced, foods wasted, and any recipe adjustments according to CBORD specifications.*Report safety issues or operational problems to management.*Report equipment malfunctions to management.*May direct student or hourly staff.*May participate in inventory.*May participate in serving plated food at catered or special events.*Perform related duties as requested.Minimum Qualifications:Possession of, or eligible to obtain a Washington State Food Worker Card within two weeks of employmentEquivalent combinations of education and experience may substitute for required qualifications.Benefits:*Full benefits, including medical and dental insurance and retirement.*Paid vacation and sick leave, as well as 10 paid holidays a year and one personal day.*Subsidized transit and parking passes.*Work for a mission-driven organization that is focused on providing the best possible living and learning environment for our students.Condition of Employment:*A satisfactory outcome from the employment verification and reference check processes.This position will work a variable schedule.
