Reports to the UC San Diego Health SPD and Perioperative Services Materials Management Director and oversees all Central Sterile Processing Department (SPD) operations for UC San Diego Health's Perioperative and Procedural Services, spanning two campuses (Hillcrest and La Jolla) and five operative locations (Jacobs Medical Center, Shiley Eye Center, Sulpizio Cardiovascular Institute, Koman Family Outpatient Pavilion, and Hillcrest Medical Center).
The SPD Manager ensures compliance with all government or mandated programs. Assists with the direction and coordination of production and other related activities of the department to obtain optimum efficiency and economy of operations while maintaining a quality focus. Obtains requests from the OR and Materials Management and provides solutions as required. Must have a good working knowledge of instruments, the operation/workings of the OR and be able to readily understand their issues and requests. Be able to speak the language of the OR. Assists with the coordination and integration of production requirements to meet the OR schedules (both scheduled and non-scheduled).
Prepares and evaluates future scheduling projections, anticipating future workload requirements to forecast appropriate staffing levels. Support efforts related to customer satisfaction, as needed resolving supply / distribution, service and quality issues in accordance within Standard Operating Procedures. Monitors inventory levels to identify and take corrective action on matters relating to potential inventory shortages created as a result of additional case volume or any customer related issue that may exist. Recommends department processes that will result in process improvements or operational enhancements while maintaining established quality standards. Provides direct supervision of all of the following areas: assembly/production, decontamination, distribution and sterilization. Directs the hiring and discipline of the workforce for these areas in accordance with approved Hospital guidelines. Conducts employee performance reviews for SPD leadership (assistant managers and supervisors). Assists with the development of workforce personnel creating an environment that both allows and encourages employee participation and growth. Understands and interpret SOPs to assure adherence to documented procedures.

Bachelor's degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, or related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Seven or more years of relevant experience, including three years of SPD experience.
Minimum one year recent supervisory or management experience.
Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification or Certification Board for Sterile Processing Department (CBSPD) certification.
Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
