Advise military-connected students and connect them to campus and community resources. Responsible for understanding and interpreting the needs of military-connected students and working directly with the Executive Director, in program management/ formulating, and evaluating best practices in the service of the university military-connected student population.
Working in office environment. Local and some occasional national travel involved. Employees may be required to participate in event setup, cleanup, and moving of materials/ supplies to various locations around campus and DFW.
1. Lead in planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of events and activities conducive to student development and success, as well as Oversee development, and operation of special projects and programs. (To include but not limited to mentorship program and advising of student organizations)
2. Advise and support military-connected students, including making referrals to campus and community resources to support student success.
3. Promote and market UTA Military and Veteran Services programs, events, and services to greater campus and off-campus communities. (Department website, social media, print, phone, and in-person marketing)
4. Assist in office staff coverage, facility management, department budget, administrative responsibilities, and overall office operations. (To include but not limited to work order requests, ProCard reconciliation, timesheet entry, travel request/ authorization, and monthly financial statement reconciliation.)
5. Other duties as assigned (To include but not limited to serving on committees and special interest groups)
Bachelor's degree; Minimum of two (2) years of experience in program coordination/ management, academic advising, office administration, recruiting, marketing, event planning/ management, and or career development with college students or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidate must possess an understanding of veterans' education benefits, veteran resources, and the educational needs of non-traditional student populations. Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. Proficiency with computers, other office equipment, and Microsoft Office.
One (1) year of experience working within the U.S. military, veteran affairs, or military assistance programs. Relevant professional experience working with students and parents who are traditionally underrepresented in higher education. Knowledge of academic, economic, social, and cultural needs of military-connected students. Experience in advising students in a postsecondary education program. Knowledge of the university and institutional administrative processes. Experience in program coordination, marketing, graphic design, website maintenance, and engagement through social media. Professional or personal experience in overcoming barriers to those confronting military-connected students. Experience coordinating and conducting educational presentations, workshops, and other individual/group activities.
