The Agriculture Laborer (Seasonal) will provide manual support to the Agriculture Resource Department in various areas, including but not limited to, manual labor; getting rid of noxious weeds by using power equipment tools. Duties will range from routing to more complex labor responsibilities requiring incumbents to take initiative, make judgment calls, and make decisions for the process for which they are assigned.
High School Diploma or GED.
Six months experience in farming industry is preferred but not required.
Must possess basic math skills.
Must be friendly and able to work with the general public.
Must be enthusiastic, motivated and well-organized, and be able to work both as a part of a team and independently.
Must have knowledge of uses of pesticides and herbicides.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
Must have a valid Arizona Driver’s License and be insurable with the Nation’s auto insurance policy and sustain insurability throughout the duration of employment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operate farm equipment to spray pesticides on weeds along roadside and perimeter of fields to keep weeds down.
Identify plants, pests, and weeds to determine the selection and application of pesticides and fertilizers.
Maintain operation log for spraying (date, time, and location and weather conditions.)
Must use safety equipment and clothing when working with and/or around chemicals.
Must know how to operate weed-eaters, chainsaws, and other hand-power machinery to keep noxious weeds down.
Must be able to work independently and be able to work under extreme weather conditions, work long hours including weekends and holidays.
At times assist with farm duties.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to eighty (80) pounds. The employee must be able to work in all types of climates, both indoors and outdoors. Work may be performed in adverse weather and environment condition. Work may be performed from latters or scaffolding, and possibly in hazardous atmospheres. Employee is subject to shift work, may work alone.
Specific vision abilities required this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the environment is typical of a construction type setting but is normally typical of an office environment.
