The Early Learning Literacy Coach will provide Highly Qualified leadership in all areas of ECE literacy, interventions, consultation and program planning and provide literacy coaching and technical assistance to GELC instructional staff
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Work with the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support team
Work with GELC staff in assessing needs and integrating Multi-Tiered Systems of Support for preschool literacy including coaching building-level teams in analysis of data
Develop and model high quality literacy lessons and units with ECE teachers
Coach one-on-one in high needs ECE classrooms, building and maintaining confidential relationships [This language may change depending upon the coaching model used]
Serve as a program resource for development and delivery of professional development related to research-based literacy strategies and interventions for GELC teachers
Support the integration of technology in effective literacy instruction
Participate in preschool improvement activities focused on improving instructional practices as evidenced by student outcomes in ECE
Participate in required trainings for Washington State endorsed literacy coaches
Remain knowledgeable about current research and pedagogical recommendations relevant to the coaching role
Provide training and support with implementation of a comprehensive system of literacy instruction
Assist staff in identifying strengths and needs in support of an early literacy continuum
As needed for completion of duties, attend meetings outside of normal working hours
Perform other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.
No supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications and Requirements

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree in literacy or equivalent with three or more years teaching experience at Grades P-3. Master’s Degree preferred.
Ability to work well with people, and maintain productive and positive interpersonal skills
Demonstrated success with teaching students at-risk in the area of reading
Washington teaching endorsement with approval or certification in Early Childhood
Ability to utilize data from diagnostic tools to determine additional extra supports needed in order to read at grade level by the end of 3rd Grade
Reading Specialist certification or the equivalent amount of training focused on research-based and evidence based practices
The administration and the use of data, including universal screening, benchmark, progress monitoring, and state assessment data.
Ability to use observational data and formative assessment processes to guide professional learning and coaching
The use of technology as an instructional and organizational tool
Familiarity with Parents as Teachers model, GOLD, Creative Curriculum, project based learning, and Conscious Discipline
Must be able to pass state background check clearance to work in a child care setting prior to employment and periodically during employment. Intermediate computer skills to assist in the development of curriculum is required.
No Suspensions, Last Chance Agreement (LCA). Dismissal or Demotion within six (6) months.
Knowledge of current P-3 state literacy guidelines and standards
Instructional skills and knowledge base in early literacy components such as phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension
Familiarity and success with utilizing formative, screening, and diagnostic tools with students to determine appropriate reading instruction
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Licenses or Certificates
TB Test, First Aid/CPR certification required.
Must have and maintain a valid and unrestricted Washington State driver’s license. Driver’s license must not contain any restrictions that would prevent the employee from driving a GSA vehicle.
