Mellon Foundation Less Commonly Taught Languages Partnership Project Position Posting; Anishinaabe Community Outreach Liaison
The Center for Language Teaching Advancement (CeLTA) at Michigan State University invites applications for a part-time (50%), academic year, fixed term academic specialist with the title of Anishinaabe Community Outreach Liaison. The position is part of The Less Commonly Taught Languages (LCTL) Partnership that is funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and housed in the Center. It starts August 16, 2019 and is renewable. Throughout the course of the LCTL Partnership Project, the ACO Liaison will work closely with the LCTL Partnership Indigenous Project Coordinator, the Indigenous Language Liaison, Indigenous Language Specialists and MSU LCTL grant personnel. The selected candidate will work closely with communities and follow community-based participatory models to
Lead community-based outreach efforts in reservation based and urban Anishinaabe communities.
Facilitate communication with the Indigenous communities
Establish long-term relationships with the Anishinaabe communities, tribal colleges and American Indian community programs and organizations
Work with community educators and language speakers to identify and support community language and culturally-based education programs, efforts and needs
Plan community-building events on both MSU's campus and on LCTL Partnership sister campuses
Support initiatives and programs to create linguistic and cultural communities on participating LCTL Partnership university campuses
Support projects and programs dedicated to success of Indigenous students at LCTL Partner universities
Qualifications: BA in any field. Ideally, they will have established contacts with tribes in Great Lakes communities.
