Open Position - Associate Specialist - Creativity Lab

The Department of Informatics at the University of California, Irvine anticipates a full-time Associate Specialist, Step II, position to become available on May 1, 2019. The selected candidate will be expected to manage the operations of an interdisciplinary research lab dedicated to the study of new learning environments, maker culture, and computational technologies. The primary responsibility of this person would be to Co-Direct/Project Manage the UCI research lab called the Creativity Labs. The Creativity Labs is a set of projects overseen by Dr. Kylie Peppler and includes computational textile projects, science museum installations, citywide learning ecosystems, and more.
This person will manage an array of incoming grants and contracts, including foundation and federally funded projects. Responsibilities will include mapping project timelines and ensuring staff and research partners are tracking to important project milestones; maintaining lab project websites and social media functions; and supervising staff, post-doctoral students, graduate students, and undergraduates working in the lab on a daily basis. Day-to-day functions will include participating in calls with funders and project partners and determining action item lists, overlooking student and staff timesheets, making approvals, managing IRBs, co-authoring project reports and research publications, and managing and stocking lab equipment and supplies. Travel to national and international research PI meetings and site visits may be necessary on occasion.
Desired skillsets include familiarity with statistical, qualitative, and quantitative analysis software; strong writing, organizational, and managerial skills; familiarity with APA and Chicago style; and prior publishing or editing experience. A Master's Degree is preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills and problem-solving skills are a must. Willingness to work in a team-oriented environment and be a motivated self-starter is also desirable.
The salary for this position is $60,300/year. The initial appointment will be for a three-year period, with extensions for further years dependent in part on the availability of funding. Anticipated date of appointment is May 1, 2019.
