The ECMO Specialist works effectively with members of the healthcare team in the provision of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Responsible for assisting in daily operations of the admiral program. The scope of patient care includes neonatal to adult patients. Will assist as a liaison between nursing, department managers, directors, physicians and hospital administration.
WHAT IS EXPECTED (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):
1.Assists with development and maintenance of policies, procedures and clinical standards of care related to the ECMO program.
2.Provides assistance to patients, families, medical and clinical staff regarding immediate and long-term needs of patients requiring these advanced therapies.
3.Manages ECMO therapy during regularly scheduled shifts.
4.Routinely primes techno circuits and facilitates the initiation of ECMO therapy. Maintains circuit for emergency use at all times.
5.Works with all members of the healthcare team to develop and implement an effective care plan.
6.Adheres to established policies within the BSWH system including but not limited to: infection control and isolation policies, HIPPA, time and attendance, and social media.
7.Ensures ECMO competencies and/ or certification records are current. This includes but is not limited to wet labs, point of care regulations, and annual competencies. Depending on required competencies, may be utilized as staff RT or RN during times of low volume.
The ideal candidate is an expert in critical care and complex clinical situations; must be able to read, write and follow flow chart protocols as appropriate; has general knowledge of computers including but not limited to: typing, electronic documentation, hand held scanner and email; has the ability to work with all members of the healthcare team to develop and implement an effective care plan; able to work willingly and professionally with other employees, healthcare professionals, and students.
