Our PATIENT FINANCIAL SERVICES department has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time PATIENT ACCOUNT REPRESENTATIVE LEAD.This individual will work closely with supervisors. Participate in interviewing applicants and training and orienting new employees to the department. Provide feedback to supervisor for employee performance evaluations, corrective action plans and training plans. Review work and provide instruction to improve efficiencies and accuracy in account resolution and to ensure compliance with established procedures. Liaise with patients, payers and UW Medicine entities and affiliates to resolve complicated billing issues. Answer questions from staff; identify and resolve problems or unusual situations; recommend changes as necessary. Monitor and evaluate policies and procedures to suggest operational changes. Participate in and/or lead special project work. Perform Patient Account Representative duties to cover for absences and prevent backlogs.This position is responsible for regularly assigning, instructing and checking the work of Patient Account Representatives, training and orienting staff, providing feedback on employee performance. Identify and resolve complex accounts for timely resolution of the patient account in its entirety.RESPONSIBILITIES:Assist in the establishment of standards, policies, and proceduresAssist with development and maintenance of billing and follow up reference documentsRespond satisfactorily and timely to requests and questionsCoordinate with supervisor in assigning, reviewing and monitoring quality and timeliness of work and identifying training needs of Patient Account RepresentativesAssist in orienting and training new staff and retraining current staffAnalyze and review appeals and provide feedback to Patient Account RepresentativesParticipate in the PFS closing rotationParticipate in special projectsServe as a Super User for system upgrades and changesAssist Patient Account Representatives with obtaining information necessary to obtain retroactive authorizations including letters of medical necessityUnderstand and interpret complex requirements and be able to prioritize and manage updates from multiple sponsors, both federal and non-federal. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of requirementsWork collaboratively with other UW Medicine DepartmentsOther duties as assignedDESIRED:Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and quality and performance standards Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service to customers and patientsDemonstrated ability to maintain effective working relationshipsREQUIREMENTS:High School graduation or equivalent AND three years of experience in patient accounting, customer service or a related office environment.
