This position is responsible for providing technological and administrative support to VirtuOHSU Simulation & Surgical Training Center (VSSTC). This position collaborates with the OHSU Simulation Medical Director and VSSTC Operations Director to schedule and facilitate all simulation and program activities. This position also works directly to support OHSU Simulation and the MRISC Simulation Center.
This position takes a supportive role in daily skills center courses including administrative, AV support, staff and learner supervision, curriculum documentation, lab set-up, lab clean-up, assist in surgical skills instruction of current simulation equipment, skills lab coach for medical student and assist for resident skills labs, and proctoring skills assessments. This position will work in collaboration with all simulation users across the university and the medical community to assist in surgical skill training events hosted in VSSTC and CLSB Simulation. Skills lab responsibilities also include organization of, assistance and attendance at surgical cadaveric and porcine wet laboratory events.
Key Responsibilities and Performance Standards:
Simulation Technician & Lab Support:
Provide logistical support for simulation activities including: set-up and tear down of manikin, tissue and human patient simulators (HPS), computer, and A/V equipment.
Oversees and coordinates with both VSSTC and/or MRISC Simulation the logistical implementation of events, including initial resource acquisition, planning of event schedule, recruitment/training of volunteers, and ensuring safety in the lab.
Develop intimate familiarity with equipment and support technologies. Create an environment for simulation activities.
Assist in the design, planning, implementation and evaluation of technologies required for simulation program using industry standards.
Establish learning environment to best leverage available technologies.
Maximize creativity with established learning context to simulate realism.
Locate and manage medical supplies needed to enhance delivery of simulation activities (e.g. pharmacy drugs, dressings).
Maintain competence as a simulation technician with involvement at a local and national level by representing OHSU in organizations such as Oregon Simulation Alliance (OSA).
Provide technical and daily administrative support to VSSTC Leadership and OHSU Simulation:
Collating skills lab documentation.
Recording new skills lab curriculum.
Documentation of simulation equipment.
Logging skills center use & utilization.
Creating skills lab feedback forms/documentation.
Assembling skills portfolios for surgical residents.
Reporting creation for skills center data.
Ensuring the lab operates according to ACS guidelines by properly documenting skills courses and compliant curriculum.
Assisting VSSTC Operations Director with ACS-AEI Annual Reports and ACS-AEI Re-Accreditations.
Event Management & Scheduling:
Position takes a lead role in VSSTC event planning and scheduling of simulation center.
Responsible for the collaboration of curriculum and event planning for all departments at VSSTC or MRISC Simulation.
Assists with scheduling events and assists all industry and education sponsored simulation events, adhering to OHSU\u2019s Integrity and Conduct policy.
This position supervises the center during skills labs and all simulation events to ensure excellent implementation of labs and proper care of skills lab equipment.
Able to direct volunteers and tech assistants in activities for simulation support in VSSTC and CLSB Simulation.
As needed, acts as skills coach for resident, medical student, and other learner skills labs.
Assist faculty with education by providing technical instruction and curriculum templates as appropriate.
Facilitate scheduling lab make-ups for residents as necessary.
Maintains OHSU Simulation, VSSTC, and MRISC Simulation policies and procedures for general skills center use in addition to policies/procedures set forth by OHSU.
This position may participate in healthcare simulation scholarly activities overseen by VSSTC Medical Director.
This position may lead tours of VSSTC for potential lab faculty & learners.
Education Support :
Assist in development of educational programs, presentations and/or patient/learner education materials at VSSTC or MRISC Simulation.
Plan and prepare curriculum content and course outlines in conformance with program objectives and accreditation standards.
Modify and update existing educational programs and/or patient education materials or recommend modifications as appropriate.
Support in the care and maintenance of departmental equipment, supplies, work areas and facilities.
Requisition supplies and equipment as needed for instruction.
Select and organize teaching aides, and equipment.
Maintain required departmental records, reports and statistics as appropriate.
Keep abreast of new developments in training techniques, methods and programs for possible application by the Simulation & Clinical Learning Center.
Responsible for the overall functionality of equipment in the skills lab.
This position is responsible maintaining OHSU Simulation, VSSTC, and MRISC Simulation policies and procedures, including those specific to simulation equipment.
This position is responsible for providing initial computer software support for virtual reality simulation equipment including managing equipment inventory records, technology related service agreements, troubleshooting equipment, and demonstrating
proper use to learners.
Additionally, this position supervises industry representative visits for simulation equipment training or repair as appropriate.
